To close out the thread, I've decided to go with BMW TwinPower Turbo 0w-30 from FCPEuro. I appreciate your help.

Been using Liqui-Moly Top Tec 6200 0W-20 every 5k miles. The last 5k miles was Liqui-Moly 0W-30 or 40, forgot. Tried it out just to see how it'd drive & feel.

Blackstone report came back just fine though, so I'll stick with it.

For anyone curious, here's a Blackstone report from my last oil change. All the records I have for the car back to new show oil changes performed at 5-7k intervals using BMW Twinpower 0W30 provided by dealer service centers. I will note that on this particular interval, there were probably close to a good 100 miles of spirited driving including sustained speeds above 90 mph shortly before the oil change.

Edit: I realized this is in the B58 section...apologies, I need to learn to read before posting.

This is such a highly debated subject, think we'd all agree on that. I've been using Shell Rotella T6 5-40 since i had my first turbo car which was a 09 WRX and i come from a back round of Mustangs, Vette's and muscle cars ect (i'm old LOL). I had never used it before btw but read about it when a fellow Subie enthusiast recommended it. I now have used it on 3 Subie's, inc wrx and sti's, 4 bmw's including N54/N55 and this B58 for two years and 20k miles (bought used at 29k). I have noticed on all of these that oil usage is minimal or none, none on this current B58. It seems to have treated all these engines well. My last thought, i prefer 5-7k intervals.

I use T6 5W40 in my E36 M3 (US- S52 engine) which has relatively high miles (140K) and have been very impressed. I thought about running T6 5W30 in my M235i, but couldn't find many reports of people doing it...I also had reservations because I hear oil formulated for diesel vehicles can be hard on the cats of gas cars. I don't put many miles on the E36, so I didn't worry about it there. But the 2 series is my daily driver...

I use high flow cats on all my turbo cars since 09', never an issue for me on any of the Subie's or Bimmers when i had the stock cat on or the high flow, all cats remained good meaning OBD readiness and MIL's OK...

Well, that's reassuring. I'm probably going to stick with the BMW Twin Power 5W30 LL01 in the summer months until it's no longer available (from my understanding it's been replaced with the 0w30 LL01-FE) but a few retailers still have some stock left over. Maybe once it's impossible to get a hold of I'll switch to the T6 5W30.

Interesting that no one has mentioned Amsoil. Their 0W-20 Euro oil meets/ exceeds BMW's LL-17FE+ specification.

I have been using Amsoil nearly exclusively in my Tundra since about 30K miles and have about 275k on it now with no signs of excessive wear, smoking or other tell tell signs that the motor is failing.

Ill be using the amsoil in my M240 going forward.

Amsoil is sneaky as ever in their "approvals", it isn't actually approved for BMW LL-17FE+, their language is:

"Use in gasoline or diesel vehicles that require any of the following specifications:"

The specification standards are then listed, which includes LL-17FE+ in the list. https://amsoilcontent.com/ams/lit/da...tins/g3395.pdf

It is likely fine to use, but if there was a warranty issue where BMW claimed that oil not meeting their specification is the problem, Amsoil 0w20 European Formula would not be an approved oil.

Hmmm, good catch on that language! You appear to be correct as their assertions state that they have "Manufacture approvals" for "MB229.51 and Porche A40 but not for BMW...

Maybe I wont be using it after all

Oil Change Oil

I was thinking of doing my own out of warranty 2018 M240 oil change myself. What Oil is the only question I have. The closest BMW dealer to me is 70 miles. So thought I would decide on a locally available oil to use and came here to see what others are using. WOW seems there aint no agreement on what to use. Not only brand buy weight also isn't in a agreement.
Maybe I will go to Dealer. How much does a dealer oil change cost these days ?

I've done 2 oil changes with the below oil. I researched and came to the conclusion that for a non race car, this is fine and meets BMW's specs. (Most oils don't meet the specs)

No matter where you look or ask, the question generally results in a wide range of answers and opinions. Bob is the Oil Guy (https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/) is the poster child when it comes to the variety of opinions out there.

I believe it was in a Grassroots Motorsports article that I read the answer by the owner of Blackstone Oil Analysis as to what oil he uses: "Whatever is on sale at Walmart."

An oil change at the dealer should generally cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $150. It may be more expensive in more expensive parts of the country and vice versa. If you qualify, this is a BMW dealer coupon offering 3 oil changes for $225 ($75 each): https://www.bmwstore.com/service/ser...ls/#print-4372

I've been using 5W30 Pento Super Performance III Engine Oil in my n20 for a few cycles and I use it in my b58 as well. I went with it since its an ll-04 oil and since the gasoline quality has improved in the US it makes it a viable option. Has better protection but should be changed more often as a precautionary measure. I'll show my UOA once I get it done.

I also went with that oil because FCP euro sells it so it qualifies for the lifetime replacement. Unfortunately though, they stopped selling it there, so I think I may move to Motul 300v on fcpeuro and change it frequently (3000 mile interval). Mostly switching to 300v because I'm interested in seeing what a group IV or V oil will show in the UOA for the b58 since nobody has shown any data for it on the forums or anywhere else.
