B58 downpipe/midpipe clamp (nut) spinning freely

I had to put a ton of torque on the nut for it to start moving in the first place, but now the bolt just spins whenever i try to loosen the nut. i can’t find a size socket that fits on the top of the bolt. i don’t know what to do.

Might have to get a wrench/ratchet on it from both ends.

If you got it broke loose a few turns and then this happened... it's likely the slots of the clamp are not holding the hex head of the bolt on the underside, no worries.
Sometimes the clamp doesn't spring open as you loosen the bolt, so the gravity let's the "trapped" hex head move out the slot of the clamp where it can spin freely.

Hope that helps

Yeah i believe that’s what happened as well. i just have to figure out what size the hex is. none of my sockets fit i think because it is rusty

I just checked from the engine bay and the top is a carriage bolt. I’m not exactly sure how to get it out now because I think the part of the clamp that was holding the carriage bolt still is probably broken or it just wasn’t supposed to be a carriage bolt in the first place. It’s completely smooth on the top and I can’t get anything to hold it still.
