People who do lapping and track days - what tune?

I was curious to know - those of you that do lapping and track days with sessions of 20-30m, what tune do you run?

Have you had issues with heat? What intercooler do you have?

I currently have an AC Autowerke charge pipe and intercooler, but I have never done a session on anything but the stock tune. I now have Bootmod3 and I am wondering if the M2 tune would be a good middle ground between max power and the ability to do full sessions without causing too many issues.

Thanks!

No tune here - after all these years, I'm still working on the driver mod.

I am 100% in your boat OP. I like the reliability of cooling, etc of using a stock tune, but would like a tune that doesn't run to hot on the high end where the turbo isn't maxed. Sub'd.

dradernh for sure - same for me. One thing I need to do for sure is improve my traction (square setup for spring, maybe a good diff at some point) before adding any power. But yeah, the slow lap times are caused by me and not the car

Didn't get as much time on the track as I wanted this year but still managed to get a few days in. Next year I should be able to do more.

At least with bootmod3 it takes a minute to revert back to the stock tune...

Do you go to Mont Tremblant?

I ran the VIR North Course with the Dinan SportTune set in Sport+ mode (not Race) and didn't notice much difference. I have a 228i with THP. It should have been an extra 30 hp and 40-50 lbs of torque.

I am sure my driving style/ability has a lot to improve before I need to worry about more power. I am running a square set up of 245/35/18 and still have issues with understeer and traction coming out of the corners.

Going back end of this month with 235/40/18 Hankook RS4s. Next mod will probably be Dinan Anti-Sway Bars or M2 LCAs.

This is my DD so am reluctant to install camber plates.

good info here as i consider options for getting myself to a beginner track car for something less than 5 days per year...

Have you installed a limited slip differential; or, do you have plans to?

Sometimes yes! I have not this year, focusing on St-Eustache since it's closing forever in about 2 weeks... Next year I will probably go to Calabogie, Tremblant, ICAR in Mirabel.

I've been to Tremblant many times. It's a very nice track for cars like ours, I think. You're lucky to have such a great track so close to Montreal.

I went to Calabogie a few times in 2009-2010, and to ICAR once in 2010. Sorry to hear that St-Eustache is closing.

Here's a video I made from the last lap I drove at Mont Tremblant - I hope you enjoy it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e3aaeSGgCI.

Very nice lap, better than I can do even in a game for sure. Thanks for that, it's useful to me especially with the telemetry shown, gives me more of an idea of how people drive on that.

I will assign tire budget to that track next year, we are lucky to have it indeed and I hope it can survive forever!

Thank you for your kind words.

The track will survive as long as Lawrence Stroll wants it to survive. But after that, I fear the people of Mont Tremblant may finally get their wish to see it closed.

Tracked at Blackhawk Farms, Road America, Milwaukee Mile and Autobahn Country Club full course with no cooling issues, not counting brakes. Wagner intercooler, JB4 map 5.

Side note, I would recommend fueling up after every session to prevent potential fuel starvation issues (1/4 tank or less of gas + high g's can send the car into limp mode).
