I haven’t driven any muscle cars but I can imagine they get off the line pretty quick. I do 90% city driving so low end torque is fairly important. I’m finding 4 cyl turbo economy cars passing me at low speeds but maybe I’m just not putting enough throttle input. I’m not the type to give full throttle or even 50% so maybe that’s why. After 40mph or so that’s when I feel the M240i gaining speed extremely fast.

Are we talking about the same M240i, my favorite urban assault weapon?

There's an old saying that may help, and it goes like this: When in doubt...give it more gas!

Don't get me wrong, I love this car,and would enjoy driving it under any conditions, I was just thinking about some driving I've done in some little econoboxes, wailing on the tach through traffic and how it related to the other poster's comment about low end torque. I guess you may have a 3 pedal ya lucky baseball. Horses for courses, and all that.

We just picked up our 2019 M240i xDrive yesterday. This car is an absolute joy to drive, and we love the Estoril Blue color. For the purposes of this thread, I'll add our nitpicks:
Well, that's really about it...just a few minor nitpicks and nothing we can't adjust to.

Yes, the wireless charger in the armrest. Neither my wife's S9+ nor my iPhone 8+ will fit; when you put the phone in and slide the bottom part back, the top of the phone rests on top of the front part of the bracket. The light will turn blue like it's going to charge anyway, but goes off after a minute.

Of course I have long thought the average American can't find full throttle with a GPS, which is why there are so many 300hp+ vehicles trundling around so slowly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a believer in following distance, but I want to be in control rather than my car slowing every time that happens. M240s come with dynamic, correct? |

Sadly, it doesn't come on the M240i. Once you've tried it – especially on congested freeways like in SoCal – it becomes a 'must have' feature. My Mazda3 had it, with settings to adjust its activation distance to your liking. The feature doesn't do anything except to mitigate a major driving annoyance.

I think you are getting adaptive and dynamic cruise control mixed up.

What is the design reason for this? So, this means I'm not getting any outside air really? Would like to learn more about what is happening and why |

There is no reason to turn the system off from AUTO (unless MAX AC or DEFROST is needed temporarily). Just choose the temperature you want and let the system perform as designed. That performance also includes an automatic drying cycle to prevent mold growth that sometimes gives rise to odd odors, which others have reported, notably those who like to fiddle with the on/off/auto function. There is a small dial in the center, below the vents which allows you to easily moderate the temperature of the face-level airflow (from outside!) from warmer to cooler. The HVAC system does not "add condensation". It has no independent source of moisture to add humidity. It does have the capability to remove humidity, if the compressor is cycling. The bottom line is to set it at AUTO when taking new car delivery and except for the extremes of MAX AC or DEFROST, leave it alone! The benefits outweigh the downside. Just adjust the temperature set-point to preference and let the BMW HVAC engineers' hard work take care of keeping you comfortable.

This unnecessary running of the air conditioner when all I want is warm air on the windshield to clear some frost is one of my pet peeves, but it applies to all the cars I've owned in the last 30 years so I didn't list it in this thread. It annoys me enough that I've researched putting a switch into the power supply to the air conditioner controller, but I never got around to doing it.

Not sure if this a complaint as an observation/learning experience. Less than 1000 miles logged and tried to clear a piece of truck tire tread. Nope did not clear. Today in heavy rain, couple cars center divider on freeway with a cop, traffic is moving about 75 in the far left lane, and debris, in my lane, could have gone evasive but too many cars around, and again thought I could clear, this black 5 inch round thing which looked at bit like an alternator, lol, but could not have been. Sheet banged under the car a spit out the passenger side down into the lane next to me with a semi, but don’t think it got him. No apparent damage to the car. End of day reason for post, sheet is low clearance.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/glob...article625789/ The engineers at BMW who designed the HVAC system know far better than anyone here when the system should operate, or not, to preserve its function free of organism growth which causes smells. Taking it manually out of AUTO frequently or for prolonged periods or tampering with it is asking for premature problems.
