Help a noob buy some wheels
So something the other night possessed me to look around for new wheels to replace my boring stock ones on my m240i.
After some looking on VMR and TireRack, i've found these Sparco Podio's that i seem to have fallen head over heels for. These Sparcos are 18x8 while the stock ones are 18x7.5, both sets having an offset of 45mm. I should be good right? According to some of my people i could even get my tires stretched onto these Sparcos, is this even a thing? I've never had to personally buy wheels myself so this is a whole new learning curve for me. Any help is appreciated!! |

More here on the general subject of matching tire widths to wheel widths: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=199 I expect that if you have the 225/245 staggered tires they'll fit onto the square set of Sparcos. Square = all wheels (or tires) are the same size. Note that just because a tire can be successfully mounted onto a wheel doesn't necessarily mean that the mounted combination will fit and work on a given car. When owners go big with wheels or tires, sometimes fenders and suspension components get in the way. It doesn't sound like this will be an issue if you're mounting a staggered set of 225/245s onto the Sparcos. In your case, with square wheels (all wheels the same size) a square set of tires would enable you to rotate your tires in the traditional manner (i.e., any wheel/tire combo can be placed on any corner of the car). This will enable you to get the most mileage out of the tires. The exception would be if you have or buy tires with a directional tread – those are intended to remain and be rotated on one side of the car only.

Maybe. The front fenders are especially narrow in the 2er. 225's are safe. 235's might be doable depending on the specs. And 245's take a little bit of work to make fit. You might need some camber and/or fender rolling to fit 245's in the front. Just because they'll fit on the wheel doesn't mean they'll fit inside your fenders.

When increasing wheel and/or tire width, there's a phrase that tends to get short shrift: test-fit. The trick is to test-fit what you want to mount without being out the cost of a wheel or a tire or both if the combination doesn't work. Getting advice from qualified shops or other owners with relevant experience often prevents costly or inconvenient detours. If you were starting from scratch, I'd suggest 225s or 235. If the 245s don't fit in front and you're determined to use them, see if you can get away with just a fender roll to make them work.
