1M wasn't built by M division, it was built on the same line at Leipzig as all the other E82 coupes.

Does it really need an ///M badge on the fender? It's not an ///M, enough with the branding, it makes it weak

Ha so funny. The whole time the 1 series was out all I heard was bashing. Now that the 2 is being revealed it is all the same crap. Get over it people. M or not the car looks bad ass. If you like your 1 keep it. Same goes if you don't like the 235. Don't buy it and find another forum

Anyone that really believes that this M235 is going to be faster around the 'ring (or indeed anywhere else for that matter) than a 1M needs to take a large dose of reality pills..............

Why isn't anyone commenting on the "brake energy regeneration"? I think this is a surprise to all of us... Does that mean we get KERS-like extra power? Or will it be used to lower fuel consumption?
In both cases that sounds like a good news to me.

The M division hasn't manufactured a car since like the E34 era. The E60 M5 V10 engine was built alongside BMW's F1 engines, however, the vehicles themselves were produced in Dingolfing.

Makes sense or me - how can it be an "M"235 without having at least that.
Yes, obviously the M235i has the M Sport package. But the info he posted was referring to the 2 Series in general. Hence my question.

Could very well be, but since it made no specific mention it begged the question. I agree that this is probably just a mistake in the info since it is unlikely that the 228i will have standard M Sport.

You are wrong, there is no confirmation, there were just words thrown without any specifics and last that I heard the BMW executive was confused and was talking about M135i time not 1M, that also explains why in that same news 1M was described as having 18 inch wheels/tires.

As a matter of fact, there are no official "BMW" Ring lap times for 1M too; during pre-production they clocked 8.12 but that was not considered as a final number and only one was from Sport Auto magazine when they did the Super Test and it was 8.14.9 or 8.15 shortly. So, what matters is what Sport Auto will clock with this car on the Ring and Hockenheim. When we see the Super Test for this car we can make meaningful comparisons between the two with regard to performance.

I expect it to be similar to M135i but if more performance accessories installed on the test car it can really be threatening the 1M territory or on certain tracks bettering 1M times as well. After all, unlike 1M it will come with Michelin Pilot Super Sports fitted standard and that is enough to extract best from any car vs. older PS2s.

It will no doubt perform well. What remains to be seen is how it will feel

It is not a novelty, all newer BMWs has it since some time. 2011 1M and at least later E9X M3s (or maybe all since their launch) had it too. It just helps the efficiency, no extra power or whatsoever.

Well there was that picture of the red camoed M235i with the 2 bumpers. M Sport will be an option on the 228i, obviously standard on the M235i.

You have a 135IS. i don't think getting a M235i is a trading UP.

135IS is a sweet car that is capable of doing the same thing as this M235i, if not better. i.e. your 135IS has a DCT, Hydralic steering, performance exhaust, small production #, blue stitching, etc. etc...

Read post 346 please. In German forums, the word was he was just confusing the 1M with M135i. He also said 1M has 18 inch wheels and tires.

Yep. But that doesn't change the fact that it said 2 Series and not M235i. It was ambiguous enough to me to raise the question. Notice also that there were no other technical details given to help resolve the ambiguity.

No, the question makes sense now--I read that list of stuff too quickly to think about the 228i--since the launch has been predominately focused towards the M235i, that's where my head was.

If the M sport IS standard on the 228i, I think that would be cool...

exactly what I was thinking! The is seems more special to me but of course there is always the attraction of the young and new.

The "is" IS more special...than the original E82...it isn't a fair comparison between it and the M235, at least in my opinion...BMW does this to maximize sales at the end of a product's life cycle. Looks at all the "special" editions of the E92 M3. Notice when those babies started being sold?

They should look different, or special, or whatever--they are designed to stand out so that people might buy a body style that is 7-8 years old.

The M235 will get similar treatment down the line...whether that's through some other designation or an actual M2 remains to be seen.

Nope.

See post above about misinterpreting models.

Simple physics dictate that a car with less power, less brakes and an inferior chassis setup can't be quicker.
