I know there are several folks on this forum who went from M235 / M240 to M2 over the past couple years and are very happy. Certainly jumping from M240 to the M2C is a bigger jump incrementally so the difference between the two should be more noticeable. Financially it's probably a huge mistake. The both the M2 and M2C are great cars but they don't and won't have the cache' of the 1M, and 3-4 years out will likely have depreciated at a similar rate to any other "M" car and maybe any other 2 Series. If you track your car a lot, it might be worth it. If it's just a DD, then harshness and ride quality aside, I doubt you'd notice much of a positive difference driving the M2C vs your M240. As others have said it really comes down to your finances, how intense your desire for an M2C is and how much disposable income you have available for "toys".

I'm worried because it's a change in the suspension geometry, which can cause issues with tire wear, bearings, etc., especially if you're having to put spacers on. And we might not see the effects for awhile.

m2c has the s55...do you enjoy strong turbo lag?...then thats the car for you
if you like minimal turbo lag than b58 all the way the only things the m2 has over the m240i are looks and track ability since i dont track...i went for inner beauty Last edited by baege; 08-18-2018 at 04:35 AM.. |

I'm surprised you guys think the M2C is going to have some great depreciation. Sure they will be marked up at first. But once they start selling at MSRP or less I don't see them depreciating any more than any other M car. I'm also thinking the number of M2C's that make it to the states will be limited in numbers compared to the M2 and that will effect depreciation.
Of course that's all speculation on my part. |

eh, I had the opportunity to drive the M2 in 6MT. It's an awesome car, but I don't think it's that much better than the M235i - esp if you consider how much more money you need to drop in to get that car (your trade in for $30-35k for a $59k brand new car).
I'm assuming the M2C isn't that different than the M2. Now, if your M235i is auto and you're thinking about getting M2C in manual, then it's debatable. Manuals won't be for sale forever. |

I will add this, people's concept of ride harshness is EXTREMELY subjective. In these instances it is best to just judge these qualities yourself. Performance wise, the M2C is going to be better than the 240/235 in every single imaginable way.
Reviews say its harsher, in all honesty I have a pretty high tolerance for a harsher ride, so for me this is a non issue. My Z3 is running on pretty much all poly bushings, and the springs are quite stiff these days. And for me it doesn't feel very harsh still. My chief complaint of the M235i is that it is way too soft and numb overall.

I also disagree that the M2 is "harsh". It's firmer for sure than the 235 in comfort mode, but nowhere near stiff as an E36 M3.
My buddy has one and let me have it for a couple of days. THAT one is stiff. I think he even put some race springs in it. But here is the thing... the car was a freakin' blast to drive. It had like 100hp less than my 235i, but still was almost as fun, if not more fun to drive than my car |

I spent the day at circuit Mont-Tremblant yesterday and got the chance to drive m'y buddys M2 on M Performance Coilovers and My M235i back to back.
I have yet to drive a stock suspension M2 but from my comparo yes there is a différence but its not that huge. Would the M2 get on my nerves as a daily driver In the long run, maybe. The M235i is a smoother and more compilant ride. All dépends what you do and where you drive the car, NO one dailys an M2 in my area, we get a lot of snow and the roads are crap. I can still imagine ppl making the compromise because its really not that bad.. As for track capability, there is just no comparision, the M235i/M240i is good, the M2 is excellent !

FWIW, there is IMHO a very big difference between a daily driver and a 'toy' or second/third car. If there is no financial imperative (e.g, having the fastest, meanest, etc is most important) then go for it....life if short. However, if what you do and how you live are tied to making compromises, then the decision becomes a bit more complex....GL whichever way you go.

WHAT WE DON’T LIKE: There’s a downside to the whole race-car schtick, and it’s stiffness. Stiffness in the suspension that translates into stiffness in the backs and necks of those prone to whining—including most of us. (emphasis added),The M2 itself seems to be whining about the harsh ride, too, as rattles and squeaks are starting to proliferate throughout the cabin. And, Jalopnik writes: as we were sitting in it, we were completely confused. Had we been driving the same car? Were we but simple peasants, failing to understand true greatness? The ride was too harsh, the gears were too short, and it sounded too fake.Yet, everything about it makes sense when you take it to where it’s meant to be—the track. There's certainly a concern here that most folks should take into consideration if they intend to commute in this vehicle every day on the usually awful streets in and around major cities.

Tempting I know. I'm curious to see what engine the next gen M2 brings. B58 tuned or S58 maybe. I was tempted for a few minutes with the new M2 Comp but I'm gonna enjoy this M240i for awhile...I hope, I tend to buys cars based on emotion, not logic.

If I were looking to get out of the F22 and into an F87, I'd take a stripper M2 6MT with the N55, with a nice discount, over the M2C. Then build/spec it from there for how I like my car to be for performance, etc. That's just me, though, I don't like what the factory offers in most cases..
