Non Run-flat tires for M240i xdrive
Did a little searching but didn't find anything recent. So the question is if one wanted to replace the horrid run-flat tires on a daily driver are there any preferred makes for all season? How much of a difference in ride should be expected?
Please keep in mind that I do not want two sets of tires/wheels; I don't track the car and live in an area where I could encounter some snow (luckily my wife has an SUV so that if the snow is deep, the BMW stays in the garage). thanks in advance. BTW, I did check Tire Rack..... |

Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 + . No further deliberation needed.
Noticeable difference in ride and handling ( imho). Have not had snow since putting them on so can,t answer that part of the question. However, they stick like glue in the wet. Last edited by emtrey; 08-06-2018 at 06:48 PM.. |

Yup, I just switched out to these three weeks ago after getting bulges on two separate runflats. It got too expensive for me to keep replacing them so I went with the Pilot Sport AS 3+ and couldn't be happier. Those RFT's are crap!

I'll save you some extra typing - his next suggestion (which I agree with) is going down to a 17" wheel if the roads by you are crap. Maybe... I don't know, a BBS SR???

One additional question: what should I expect regarding ride quality after switching from stock run flats to the Pilots? Especially the harshness, like the tires are solid rubber....

You should expect an improvement in ride quality. I do not understand your second sentence.

It's a slightly more compliant ride over the RFT's. Nothing huge as you may think after reading reviews online. Responsiveness is slightly less than the RFT's and I'm assuming it's because they are softer tires. Road noise is just about equivalent and this was the only disappointment for me. I have 1000 miles on mine so it may get better over time.

Got it, thanks. The OEM RFT aren’t solid rubber and still rely on inflation with air. There is internal structure to provide the run flat capability. The aftermarket Michelins will have a superior ride in any case.

I put a set of these tires on my wife's Honda. They are a great improvement over the BFG all seasons that were on the car. However, I'd stick with the Michelins.

A follow up question to the group: As I really cannot stand the OE tires, will it affect the warranty if I change them out to non run flats? Never know....thanks

If a lease car came with RFT, it must be returned with RFT or you'll be charged for a new set. My solution...remove the runflats and buy your preferred tires for use during your lease....put the RFT back on prior to lease turn-in.
