Exclamation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Renders

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I just saw these renders on Road & Track! - http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-c...ies-gran-coupe

And the only thing that comes to mind is: Where do I sign?

Info from Scott26:

Quote:
With the forthcoming separation of the BMW Compact segment family to accommodate each equal family such as the UKL/Next generation 1er , the current 1er and the all new 2er family are distant in looks and purpose.

The 2er maintains the ability of a RWD drivetrain and the benefits of an entry sports coupe. The renaming of the current 1er Coupe and Cabrio allows BMW to expand on the model line by resorting back to the traditions of classic entry BMW's - Compact, focused and no limits when it comes to involving driver communication and dynamic handling. For the idea of this expanding family we have to go back to the 2002 and the E30 3er. Cars that helped define the segment.

To make you understand how the BMW 2er appearance differs from the BMW 1er I have done this quick rendering in Paint for quickness over an existing 1er Coupe illustration.

The lower intakes reflect the opposite direction of the headlights by being more angular in an upwards direction. The lines on the bumper are highly prominent on the front of the car and help protrude the car for class-leading front safety.

The "eye-bags" under the headlights connect and flow downwards with the lower intakes forming the air curtain at the side of the intake. And depending what model-line there will be the option of decorative trim surrounding circular fog-lights.

The overall appearance shows a kinship with the 1er but interprets its DNA in a sportier format which brings the car into line with the other BMW Coupes such as the 6er and forthcoming 4er Coupe. It can be said that there is a similar comparison to the larger 6er Coupe and some say it looks like a shrunken 6er in its dynamic outline but in keeping with entry Coupe proportions.

The rear of the car enhances the look of todays 1er Coupe and Cabrio with similar shaped but more elongated L-shape on the bootlid again connecting the line of BMW Coupe's and the overall BMW character.

Some 2er's seen at the studios of Munich are shown to include LED headlights and larger wheels of 19" size.

The sportier look given to the 2er shows why BMW are expanding the 2er line with the four door Gran Coupe in order to enter a growing competitive segment by combining a sport sedan with greater individuality.

Engine options will be varied from petrol and diesel four and six cylinder right up to the storming M235i which adds the focused chassis of the M135i with 2er specific changes to the chassis and suspension, before climaxing in a lighter M2 variant. The M2 is a car that will aim to repeat the same successful formula as the 1er M Coupe by being the "entry" ladder to the M Division but with a reduction in weight and not as limited this time around.

The cabrio variant retains a folding soft-top for significant weight reduction and clean lines with a completely flat rear deck enhancing the sportier appearance with superior levels of beauty.

The sportier look to the 2er shows why BMW are expanding the 2er line to include a Gran Coupe four door model in order to enter a growing competitive segment by combining a sport sedan with greater individuality and class-leading dynamics.

The new BMW 2er Coupe and Cabrio will be introduced in 2013.

The front is meh. But the back is pure e46 rear end pornography. The side looks weird though. It looks too short to be that pudgy.

Ya but weren't the even-numbered series supposed to be 2-door and gc models only? This looks an awful lot like a sedan
Oops, glanced over the title. Makes sense why they rendered a 4 door.

Wow, if the 2er GC looks like that I think I may be skipping the 4er and saving some money

Yeah, xdrive is kind of a necessity in the north and midwest if you plan on driving it year round and don't want to have to worry about getting dedicated winters.

The rear doors look far too cramped

I hope the dimensions of this car is smaller than the E92.

I'm sure the rear will be okay, but damn I hope it has those huge front doors.

If it is smaller than the E92 and the styling is spot-on, it will sell very much like "Tall" Coffee's sell at Starbucks.

HOTT!!

2002, e30, Ok I'll even include the e36......then they started getting too big!

Come on BMW. Time to reinvent the compact luxury sports sedan! (emphasis on compact! ).

Tidy up the nose a bit and make it not so Volvo-ish and it's a winner from all angles.

Love it! So looks like the 2 series is becoming what the 3 series initially was. Seems like the plan is to have at one end a pure drivers car (1&2er) and the other end more luxury GT cars (5&6er.) 3&4 seem like they're going to be a happy medium between a hardcore, out and out driver's car and a softer luxury GT. This is truly an evolutionary crux phase for BMW, and I really love the new direction they're going in!

This is a rare time that I would say; "Call it whatever you want" as long as it looks this good!

Like the current 5 series, M5, 1M, X5, 7 Series ... all very nice looking / inside & out!

Hate to agree with you, but you are right. They will figure out a way to make it ugly like the next 1er.

Having just written a rather underwhelmed response on the M4 render thread, I'm pleased to land here and say, I like! (Though I too wonder what is coupe about it, it's a tightly packaged sedan...like, um E46! Which can only be a good thing)
