Best Tire Choice
Yes, I have done some searching and read different reviews, but I am looking for more current thoughts that what I have found.
2018 M240i, staggered tires (225/40-18 and 245/35-18). Currently have the MPSSs but time for new boots. Looking for best performance in the summer...don't care about them being all seasons. Won't be tracked, though I may do a club day or two here and there. Leaning heavily towards the Pilot Sport 4S but am open to suggestions and advice. Thx |

Tire Rack has a pretty good selection of Extreme Performance Summer tires to consider, even if you don't purchase from them: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/types...at.jsp?perf=EP. Out of all those tires, however, this is the only set at the Rack that appears to come in both the front and rear OEM staggered sizes: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...SortCode=53950; review here: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=239.
If you're not familiar with them, the Extreme Performance Summer tires will generally have more grip and road noise along with less tread life than a Max Performance Summer tire like the Michelin you're considering.

I really liked the Potenza s007. It is an extreme summer, but has actually worn better than Conti extremecontacts due to less edge wear (may also be b/c of wider wheels). Does well in wet and cold, almost as good as the contis.

The way old PS2, slightly newer PSS and newest P4S are a max performance category, the potenza s007a are an extreme performance category.
It's funny the conti 'extreme' contact are in the 'max' performance category like the michelin. Probably just to mess with people. Some swear by the Hankook V12 (especially because they are so cheap). Same with Kumho. Others like the Potenza S04. I like Continental. If you're just shopping objectively highest rated tire that leaves you with the bridgestone James Bond in the extreme category. Anything higher is just a track tire. Personally? At this level of tire you won't notice a measurable difference in handling it's personal preference of sound/feel. (some like more give, some less, some like more growl, some less). Since tires are a consumable I have a tendency to shop on price. Seth |

Take a look at Firestone Indy 500 - 80% performance at 50% the cost

I am a huge fan of the p4s if you have the budget for it. You basically will get it all in that performance category. Running the Continental extreme contact Sports on a different car. I'm liking them so far too.
If you're willing to accept more harshness or road noise compared to the Super Sports, you can look at some of the other options mentioned. I don't have much experience with those. |
