It's been standard on the 135i in USA since launch I believe.

I hope it's an option, I have never used it on my 128i and sometimes I can hear wind noise coming through it.

I tended to open the sunroof in my 135i more than my current 335i, but still most of the time it remained closed.
The thing that I love about sunroofs is the extra light they let into the cabin.
For me sunroofs are a must have, and I really hope BMW doesn't screw this up by not having it as standard on the M235i and at least optional on other models.

I'm also very intrigued by a topless/vert M235i.
A bigger backseat than the 135i vert could make an M235i my first convertible, and I've wanted one from a long time ago.

I will be just fine with a 228i M Sport...i'll take the auto, premium, tech, Harmon Kardon, and lighting. Also, i hope the safety features (such as lane departure, blind sport warning) will be on offer. Are these offered in Europe for the 1 series?

Yeah, sorry but BMW missed the mark here on the headlights and grill. I'm going for the Porsche Cayman S where the design is completely resolved and focused.

I was so into the 2 series with the renders and the M135. I'm just sick of seeing car design compromised to leave room for other model series. Purposely sabotaging and watering down models.

I agree. I tend to keep the sunroof closed as well (can only really use it a handful of months in Chicago) but I too enjoy the extra light that it brings in and there is a definite placebo effect that makes the car seem roomier. Doubtful that it's exclusion would be a deal breaker for me, but it is definitely something I'd prefer to have as an option.

OK, so what I want to know is since production is going to start in November and will be a limited first year run, is the M235i going to be hard to come by the first model year?

I don't want to put a deposit down now as I was hoping to get this car below MSRP, but if it's going to be kind of scarce, I guess I would have no choice.

You can be sure the M2 will have a fat ass( wide fenders an all) like the 1M but i bet more integraded and refined...As far as the sunroof goes, i use mine all the time and would sorely miss it. After i sold my 135i 3 months ago i have been driving a 1991 Mazda Miata with 61,000 original miles on it...and let me tell ya this thing handles great and with the top down it is as much fun in a different way as driving my 400hp 135i...There is something about a vert that is invigorating and the exciting and driving around a 2100 lb car that is LOW to the ground is fun.....but NOT comfortable....That is what makes the BMW so great..they handle, are fast, and are comfortable...but unlike a Miata or a Caymun S ( i love that car) the BMW's haves some room and are comfy..The Mazda and Caymun are very snug inside but damn the Cayman S is a beauty...I sat in a few already and have test driven an older one. But i am sure the Caymub S with a couple options will be 15-20 grand more than the M2. I am waiting to make any buy till the M2 comes out.

Proportions

The headlights appear so small proportionally to the rest of the car. It just makes the rest of the car look too big and bloated. The M135 proportions are much better matched.

I love it.

I wonder how the visibility is though- the doors look high/windows short/greenhouse is short for a bmw.

A 228i M sport would be cool... will we see a sedan??

A lot of talk here about the M235 and for good reason. Improved looks with the new model and the N55 in a lighter package than the F30. But if this 228 comes in a few hundred pounds lighter than the 328, it has to be a phenomenal car. I'm surprised we're not seeing more posts about that model. 30 plus mpg, more nimble, quick (328 is roughly 13.9-14.1 1/4 mile so I'm guessing 13.6-13.8 for the 228), and hopefully a bit less expensive compared to the M235 considering the M235 is more like the current 135is compared to a 128.

side note: I really hope they don't take away the manual on cars like this (RWD or xdrive).

BMW absolutely knocked it out of the park. This is a magnificent design and after what they did to the F-gen 1er, words cannot express my relief.

228i loaded to the gills for euro delivery please.

Was that really necessary? We all knew what he meant.
Well... At least the original poster was educated on proper terminology. It'll help the poster to not be perceived as an idiot.

Yes, there will be a 4 door 2 Series GC.

And Gran Coupe, but not for a couple years or so. You may have thought he was asking about the hatchback coming to the US, but I think he just meant to ask if there would be two and four door, err "notchbacks", just as there are three and five door hatchbacks. So the answer is yes, as I say above.

I will most likely build mine with a 6mt anyways, was just wondering if it was coming with the DCT. I guess they will wait for the M2 to put in a MDCT
I had an 08 135 (N54) with the 6MT for three years, and traded it in on a 11 135 (N55) with the DCT. So I have had nearly three years in each, and I can definitely say that the next car I get will have an old fashioned MT. This is based on a few things:

--the DCT definitely shifts faster than me, but I miss doing it myself. There is something satisfying about changing your own gears.
--the DCT is a little clunky and dim-witted around town. Unless you have the SPORT button "on" and the gear selector in S, there is a pretty noticeable hesistation when taking off. This is made worse when the A/C is on. Perhaps this is more a complaint of throttle response, but I never experienced it with the MT because I was in better control.
--I know this isn't specifically what we are talking about, but the N55 is no N54. It just isn't as strong as an engine. This is all subjective, seat of the pants, but I have always been able to tell a difference in the way the two motors pull, especially at 100+ MPH. A (relatively, compared to the N54) sluggish engine with a dim-witted gear-box around town doesn't make the most exciting driving experience possible.
--that being said, I cannot imagine a more dim-witted and sluggish AT as some have said is the case for the current M135. I would hope that each version of the DCT would get better, so maybe a newer one would sway my opinion a bit. Regardless, it will be 6MT or nothing for me...and I might have to wait for the M2...

I also sold my paddle shifting 135i because i HAVE to get back into a M/T as my fun car ...as nice as auto is it will never replace rowing through the gears and being 2000% in control of when the car shifts ....... The M235 will be available in 6M/T. It would be VERY BIZARRE for BMW not to offer a M/T in there enthusiast small car. I can not wait for the M2...it's gonna be a sweet ride.
