Got Rear Ended this morning
So I was stopped at a red light this morning and someone rear ended me. Damages doesn't appear to be too bad, but still a PITA.
I figure if the other guys insurance company doesn't pay for this, I may just end up paying out of pocket, as I doubt this will be much over $500. As a side note, anyone know if that bottom carbon fiber piece can be fixed or will have to be replaced? The dent in it doesn't appear to be too big. |

The other guy is always responsible when you get rear ended unless you live in a no fault state.

My bottom grey fiberglass had to be replaced when very slightly scratched.

That damage looks very similar to mine when I got rear ended (2 days after picking up the car!). My total was over $1500, and they replaced the bottom piece in my case. The car was just introduced, so there was a total of one spare in the country at the time ( I assume that is no longer the case).
I ended up just going thru my insurance as I was the last car in a 4 car collision. The driver that caused it also had State Farm, so no deductible out of my pocket. Good luck! |

good time to swap that out for a mperf diffuser.
If you need the OEM one, I have one in perfect shape, pay for shipping and supplies and give me 20$.

Several years ago, someone backed out of a parking spot and into the back bumper of my parked BMW 1-series. My wife and happened to be walking back to my car when we saw it happen. It was a low impact bump. There was no damage to the rear bumper - the paint was perfect where it had been backed into, but I noticed a slight outward bump in the area. I took the other drivers info and took the 1er to the BMW dealership for a check-out and apparently the rebar behind the bumper had been damaged and had to be replaced. Cost was over $900 (covered in cash by the other driver). Have the dealer or a body shop check it out.

But yes, I would not be surprised if this ended up being pretty expensive especially since it sounds like the bottom part will need to be replaced as well. Fingers crossed that state farm will take care of this. |

I wouldn't assume the damage is minor just because it looks ok cosmetically. I got rear ended at about 10 MPH and it cost $3k to repair ...
Take it to a BMW approved body shop and insist that they remove the rear bumper cover and inspect it! |

+1 to getting a proper estimate from a proper bmw shop. Someone backed up into my door handle on my MINI, cosmetically, the handle was a bit dented and a few minor scratches and it cost $2,000+. The damage might look minimal, and it could really just be that but do not underestimate how much it could potentially be to paint and blend in the bumper and panels.

Well bad news so far, the guys who hit me has not been answering his insurance company's(State Farm) calls, and I do not have a police report because in Dallas they do not come out for "minor" accidents with no injuries. The drivers mother owns the car, and she has not been taking/returning insurance company calls either.
Looks like my best bet at this point may be to try and get this covered under uninsured motorist, since it looks like this claim is most likely going to be denied by state farm for insured non cooperation. |

Don’t go to the place that bmw of Dallas uses for repairs, I forget what it’s called. When they fixed my car it came back with scratches on the tail lights and on parts of the car that they didn’t even repair. They also swirled the fuck out of my paint.

WTF is 'insured noncooperation'? I have never heard of such a thing, though it sounds like a great deal. You go around causing accidents, don't answer your phone, and voila, you are off the hook!
And I thought that Texans were real people! How about you hunt these people down and shoot them in self-defense? Oh, wait, that is Florida. |

Last year my wife's car was rear ended while parked at a stoplight waiting for it to change. This was a 15 K bill. Once they looked passed the bumper cover, everything was smashed. So be very careful.
