New 2018/ M240i convertible !!!! Looking for suggestions

Brought home the new car this weekend.
Need suggestions for practical accessories to buy (what to buy and where to buy) as there are size/ compatibility issues

Few things I could think of—

1. Sun shade for wind screen - various options on amazon but varying sizes.
2. All weather mats- interior is red leather
3. Car care kit with polish etc- saw few suggestions on Maguir kits
4. Car cover compatible to this model

Any other helpful hints from old hands please.

Thanks in advance !!!

One of my favorite accessories is the Mods4cars Smarttop control module. It gives you one touch convertible top up / down, remote top opening / closing, etc. Might seem a little pricey but it does work great. Install is fairly simple.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Garage List
[B51.47.0.429.466] passenger footwell Luggage Net - which you can easily fit yourself (£19.42) really useful
[B83.12.2.298.917] Leather Care Kit - I found it works really well esp on light-coloured hides (£29.17)
[B83.12.2.409.032] 5L Winter Screenwash Concentrate (£15)

Prices are what I paid in 2016 and GB£ so probably a bit more now. Part numbers can change.

The luggage net is very easily owner-fitted in the passenger footwell, on the transmission tunnel. I put all sorts of oddments in there and it's reachable from the driver's seat as well.
I have oyster leather and the BMW cleaner was very good at removing jeans blue dye.
BMW strongly recommends only using BMW screenwash concentrate, to avoid 'gunking' when mixing types (there's much controversy over this, but I err on the side of caution) - a 5L is more cost-effective than 5x 1L.

Depending on if you have any issues with the seat belts, I've been eyeing the seat belt holders. Might not want them if you use the back seats a lot, I'd suspect you don't.

With a new car, I highly suggest you take the time now to do a thorough prep (wash, clay, (compound as necessary) and polish, then follow up with a ceramic coat. This will keep your car easy to maintain and seal in pristine paint before you have to do more extensive paint correction.
I've had a pretty good experience with cquartz UK and reload, but there are lots of options out there.

Seems like it’s only available in the US. I’ll have to get one shipped to the UK.
Does it fold away nicely and easy to put in place?

It folds easily and is easy to put in place. It's a bit structured, unlike the cheap ones, which helps. There's no container for it, though, so you have to just fold it and tuck it on a seat or upright in a footwell, or stow it in the trunk, when not in use.

I have a detailing business and buy all of my products from www.detailedimage.com in upstate N.Y. Check their website, they have everything for detailing your vehicle with product reviews, videos and professional and consumer ratings. They are always at Barrett-Jacksaon and Mecum prepping cars for auction. Fast shipping as well.

Mine came with a nice leather sheath to put it into. You can get it on ebay from sunmotors I am pretty sure, dunno if they will ship internationally though.

Thanks for the advice. I have never done waxing before so am afraid to do it at home and harm moulding etc. What do you think is a a reasonable cost to get clay+wax detailing on the car?

One more question to the experts: what is the construction of the soft top of the M240 convertible and any recommended cleaner?

Guessing this varies quite a bit by location, but as I recall I paid just under $100 for full exterior detail including clay and some type of synthetic paint sealer that was supposedly better than wax and was supposed to last 6-8 months and make it easier to wash and get the road grime and bugs off. The detail and clay were worth it, but not so sure about the synthetic paint sealer, which certainly didn't last as long as advertised and didn't seem to be any better than wax at making it easier to clean. As to your question on convertible top maintenance in another post, I have used Formula 303 products for years with great success, but there are other products others will swear by. https://www.amazon.com/303-Products-...and+protectant

I have been very happy with the Chemical Guys cleaner and sealer, have done both my convertibles with it. The E46 looks brand new.

Waxing is really easy to do. Something like Meguiars ultimate wax will not stain trims and mouldings.
What I'm suggesting is beyond your typical wash and wax routine - More of a paint prep and correction for ceramic coating. I would suggest looking into it to see if it's something you would like to do. This is not your typical paint sealant...I've never had any of the waxes/sealants I've tried last more than two months to where it's still beading water well. And my ceramic coat is still shedding water like mad after two months.
Prep for ceramic coating could cost a bit depending on how much paint correction needs to be done, but certainly it should be less now while the car is new!
As a guideline, I would be skeptical if anyone quotes less than 4hrs to do full wash, claybar, one or two step correction.

Congrats on the new car. Please post some pics!

Regarding sunshade - I just received my Weathertech shade in the mail today. After using rigid foldable shades in my former X3 and 1-series, I wanted something that didn't feel as bulky.

The shade seems well constructed and fits snugly. It rolls itself up upon removal and has a velco strap. Haven't put it to a full test yet, but so far I'm satisfied with the purchase.

One of the least expensive visual enhancements you can make easily to the rear end (and who doesn't like a good looking rear end) is to swap the OEM 3" slip-on exhaust tips for the BMS 3.5" slip-on exhaust tips.
Takes about 5 minutes to do.
