In a car, first you need to ajust delais for front then rear speakers until sound comes from twelve O'clock or six for rear speakers. All you need is your ears.

Then you need to ajust signal to the car using a "pink noise" and Microphones.

Bavasound has the best material to do that : they can do it from exterior the car when i only can do it from inside siting in rear seats my laptop on my knees and microphone blocked near position of ears driver.

Doing this you can ajust left and right speakers simultaneous or better as bavasound separatively for best response.

My only doubt : why did they apply a lowpass filter at 10KHz to all speakers ???
HK tweeters. One word, HARSH!

OK, so the tweeters suck.

What is your opinion of the doors and the subs, compared with the HiFi ones?

Is there any sense in changing just the tweeters? Is that even possible without still having to pull the door panels (probably not).

Just still wary of even starting down this road if it's going to have cost me $2000 by the time I'm happy

They're much better than the Hifi speakers that's for sure. My advice is to start with the amp and decide if you want to upgrade the speakers. If you do, just upgrade the fronts. no need to upgrade the center and rears.

You're looking at about $1600 for a full sound upgrade.

I got the base audio knowing that I'll upgrade the speakers. I plan on going with bavsound for speakers and floor subs. Bimmertech amp for power. I just hope that bav offers a tweeter kit for us base audio dudes.

If I need more low end I'll look into a powered sub as well. I'm not in my 20's anymore. Gone are the days where I want two 12" subs that set off alarms and rattle everything to death.

I just got back in my car today after 5 days of driving our spare car trying to get the emissions system to reset for inspection.

Big fan of Nelson's tune. Still a bit bright for my taste (I can fix that), but separation and clarity are massively improved over the OEM hk system.

I agree. Very clear and open but still too bright. Please let us know what you do to take the edge off and reduce brightness.

Excellent write up thank you. I'm prepping for my install then had a vision.

If I were to add a powered sub to the trunk area later on, I figure I'd simply run the two RCA line outputs off this amp into the powered sub amp, then connect a amp kit power line to the battery that's conveniently in the trunk.

My question is the REMOTE TURN-ON WIRE needed on the additional powered sub amp. Can you tell us which wire on the harness (if any) would work for a remote turn on to tap into?

And what's the microSD card slot for? When would I use it?

Thanks! Looking forward to getting some good sound back. For those of you on the fence, try loading some FLAC music files on a flash USB drive to use in the center console to see if that can satisfy you enough... much better sound for the stock HK system since the iDrive will read FLAC files. Cheers!

Update: Disregard question 1, found here:

You can have two different sound tune files on the card and use the optional remove control to switch between them. The utility of this feature would seem somewhat limited, as you need to have the files loaded onto the card before placing the card in the slot. The location of the amp behind the trunk liner makes this a lot more work than just pushing a separate tune file to the amp over the USB connection.

2 questions on the software,

1) do I still have to rename the files after I download them?
2) In the version 3 of the software I dont see a 'store dsp' button? How do I save the files to the amp?

1 ) If you are downloading from the manufacturer's site, you typically don't need to rename them. If you are downloading something attached to a posting on the site, they typically need to be renamed.

2 ) Top line, 3rd button from the left, "Save and Store".

thanks. I was looking at the manual for the older software.

(I'm assuming the files in your first post do not require renaming)

The 4 at the top of the first post from the manufacturer do not. The one at the bottom of the first post from me does.

There are some more tunes, including the one I am currently using, here: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1232178

I have one, but it's at my office on my laptop. I'll try to remember it in the morning.

Turns out, I don't. I have the V2 version of the HiFi tune if you would like that one.

Thanks for your help. I found the V2 file in your other post last night.

so switched to that, couldnt stand the flat profile that was loaded when I first plugged in the V3 software and said ok to update the amp.
