MPG 230 vs X5

In normal driving my 230 goes around 33 mpg. Drove my neighbor to the airport in his V8 X5. That beast really drinks, couldn't be over 15 mpg. And it didn't feel any faster. High price to sit up high.

You can't compare these two. They are totally different vehicles.

2015 BMW M235ix  [0.00]
Twice the number of cylinders, half the mileage rate!
For what it's worth, my 2015 235 has averaged 19.6 mpg over its entire lifetime.
I rarely see 30 mpg unless cruising on a highway below 70 mph.

It won't, unless you happy-foot it. Otherwise, it's just like any other transportation module: useful for going to the store, airport, work, etc.

I had an X5 35i for a loaner a couple years ago. Basically the same engine as my car, but in a vehicle twice the size. Gas mileage was quite noticeably worse, but not really surprising. Performance wise I thought it really needed a V8 actually. If I were to buy one it would be a requirement.

Same here. I'd go for the M50i V8 for its similar acceleration to my 2017 M240i.

Car and Driver shows a 70-0 stopping distance of 155' with the BMW-spec Pirelli P Zero PZ4 stock tires. That's the same as C&D got from the 2017 M240i they tested, so in that regard the X5 appears to be reasonably capable as delivered.

Yeah no complaints about the chassis really. It was certainly well sorted and confident to drive, even in non M spec. Much moreso than the typical new pickup truck, which are a large plurality of vehicles around here.
