Music Collection issue

Car is a 2018 M240i with HK. I had my iPhone 7 connected to the audio system via the USB port and an apple cable. Had issues with songs not finishing before the next song would start. I switched to the music collection. The audio system worked fine. When I got home I decided I would update the music collection. I FAT32 formatted my Sandisc USB3 stick (16GB) and then loaded it with my music from the hard drive.

The first step I did was to delete all of the music in the music collection. I verified this by checking that all of the system’s memory was avail. I then inserted the memory stick in the car’s USB port and tried to load the music collection from the memory stick. The system couldn’t “see” the memory stick. I tried this several times, all to no avail. I then disconnected the negative cable from the battery and left it disconnected for 5 minutes. I reconnected the negative cable and tried to upload the music. Same result. Here’s the weird part: the system will play music loaded on the memory stick!!!!

Thoughts?!

Ok so the I-level of your car is almost a year old according to BMW’s system, if you updated the car from OBDII port somewhere else they can’t, thus I can’t, see it but as far as I can see you have I-level of F20-17-11-530, you might want to get that updated to the latest which I believe is F20-18-07-547 as of today. Just go to your dealer for them to do it as you are still covered under warranty. In the mean time, there is a PuMA measure for with which just calls the let the system cool down before trying again, noy]t sure why though. Have you tried restarting the iDrive with pushing and holding the volume button until the screen goes black then you can release it and it will reboot. Another issue that might be occurring is that due to some reason you might not have power to the USB port. Does your phone charge when you plug it in?

Also PS: you have new map data (NA 2018-3) available for your car, try updating that with the USB to see if it will indeed read and update it or just no response

The car was in for it’s one year service. Doesn’t the dealer check these software updates when it has the car?

The gauge cluster software was updated about a month after I took delivery of the car in September 2017. I don’t think anything else has been updated.

I’ll try the idrive reset to see what happens. I’ll get back to you with the results. I appreciate your help in this issue.

Hmmmm, I tried to reset if I’ve by pressing and holding the volume knob but all it did is mute the music. What am I doing wrong? The owners manual is useless.

Ok, started the engine and tried to reset idrive. I was able to reset idrive but no change-still doesn’t see the thumb drive when I try to upload music to music collection. Verified that it does charge my iPhone. Argh!
I’ll stop by thr dealer tomorrow and hand the SA a hard copy of the issue.

Ok so at this point dealership is the best way to go. Only other suggestion I have is you can try to install the songs with another USB. BTW, don’t forget to tell your SA all the troubleshooting things that you’ve done including the ones above, it saves them a great amount of time and you will be treated as a customer that understands his car which, in turn, avoids hearing bs. Let me know how it goes...

I've printed out a copy of our posts and showed it to the SA when I made the appointment. I will ensure the tech gets it.
