Mine did this too. I think OEM ferric grey paint is just defective, honestly.

Dang, that’s a shame. I guess powder coating it is. I’m not the biggest fan of grey with Estoril Blue anyway. I just saw your post about your wheels so that helps with what my next option would be.

Edit: Would it even be worth going to the dealer about it since it’s still under warranty?

I just got a better look at these pics. Are you sure they haven't been refinished? The paint looks textured and it looks like there is ferric grey below ferric grey.

Could it be a wheel repair that's beginning to fail?

Not normal in my experience (5 BMWs for me, 3 for wife since 2001). None of my wheels have had this type of defect. It almost looks like the clearcoat is failing. I'd report it to the dealership and see what they'll do, since you should still be under warranty.

Huh, I didn’t think about that possibility. I bought the car off a dealer from the original owner so I did get it used but of course nothing was mentioned about that but probably wouldn’t have known. So I went back to look again and caught this. Looks to me like curb rash that’s been smoothed over. I think you’re right that they’ve been refinished. I’m going to set an appointment with the dealer anyway and see. Can’t hurt. I’ll update once I do.

edit: spelling
