Computer recall and other service
Took the 2018 M240i xDrive convertible in for service yesterday: summer tires, oil change (2000 miles early), refresh "Diamond Fusion", and reflash the computers for the head unit recall. Overall it took them about four hours, much of which was apparently the computer reflash. They shouldn't call it "flash".
Naturally, in the process, they lost my radio stations, my phone connection, my seat memory, and -- it looks like -- my comfort access settings for mirror folding. I'm not sure if the ASD is back on or not. So back to the Bimmercodes ... |

We had the software in our 2018 230i reflashed for an instrument panel recall (not sure if this is the same as the 240 recall). Afterwards had to re-do all my lovely Bimmercode work.
A few days later I got an irate call from my wife. She had taken the dogs to the dog park and then wanted to stop by the grocery. She could not get the interior motion sensor to shut off and assumed this was due to some of the coding I had done. In fact, this was a consequence of the software update - BMW is aware of the problem but apparently has not yet figured out a solution. I wonder if setting Roof Function Center/3002 Innenraumschutz ("interior protection") -> nicht activ deactivates the motion sensor. |

Hm I didn't know there was a way to turn it off. I don't have any dogs to worry about but I suppose if I ever lock my wife in the car ...
How does one turn that sensor off? |

As you stand outside the car, bend down to look at the red LED on the rear view mirror.
Press the key fob 'lock' button once. The red light will flash. Within a second, press the key fob 'lock' button again. The red light will stay on continuously for a couple of seconds. This means the internal motion sensor is disabled. After a couple of seconds, the red light will flash on and off, as usual. There is then no indication of whether the internal motion sensor is disabled or not. If there was, thieves could take a look and see that the internal motion sensor was disabled and break a window, knowing there'd be no alarm. Convertible owners are all familiar with this as they often need to disable the internal motion sensor if they want to leave the car immobilised, but with the top down. For coupé owners, it allows you to leave pets/passengers in the car but immobilise it. Or to leave the windows open for ventilation and the car immobilised and locked, without fear of the wind/leaves etc setting off the internal motion sensor.

That should be "within 10 seconds" according to the manual. Ours used to work as described, but after the software update no longer does.
