What would be your other car after 3rd series?
Most of people here are performance oriented crowd, so I value your input.
Kids are not little anymore, I’m going to replace my second car soon, which is Toyota Van (nothing can beat sliding door, when you need to buckle your kid into car seat). I don’t want second 3rd series, plus I need something a little bit more comfortable for 5 people. I don’t really have any short list as yet, but I’m thinking about either X5 4.8 or 550i or even new G35… The X5 has seven seats capacity now, but I expect 5er is better driving. I have not test drove cars yet, and I want to listen to what people say first. What would your preference in similar situation?

Wait and drive the new 4.8i X5 without the 3rd row seat and you should enjoy it very much! My next recommendation is the 550i.

Personally I'd go for a 5-series. I'm not a fan of SUVs so X5 is out, though I'd rather have an SUV than a van Not too familiar with the G35 sedan (coupe isn't family oriented at all) but I suspect it'd be similar to 3er size... if that's the case and you can afford a 5er I'd go 5er.
I'm actually thinking of this now (dreaming? I hope not) ... maybe down the road after marriage and kids I'd get myself into a 5er

i'd look at the 550i.
x5 is cool, but i'm not a big suv person. g35? might as well get another 3 series then.

Just for reference on G35 sedan, it has much more back seat space then 3er and they even can be reclined. I test drove 2006 G35 and it was almost as good as BMW.

I'm under impression that MB is not quite a sport car. It is solid (no question), but doesn't it drive more like a lux boat?

I don't plan to get another car for at least 5 years but I would probably interested in a new 3/5 series or an X5. I love BMW but I will also check out the competition by then

I would check out the Lexus GS 350/430/450(if you really want), the M35/M45, or even a 5 series, probably a 530i. Do you honestly need a 550i? Would it be worth it to spend the extra money on a more family oriented car? I've heard from a lot of 530i owners that the 530i has enough power for the car. Myself though, I would probably go with the Lexus GS 350/430, that car is SICK.
