Any way to get APPLEPLAY working on a 2016 228i?

First: Welcome to the forum!

Second: It's Apple CarPlay. Using the correct terminology helps.

Third: 2 Series models didn't get iDrive 4.0, which has CarPlay functionality, until the 2017 model year. To my knowledge, iDrive cannot be upgraded, and you can't code what isn't there. So, no: your car cannot use CarPlay.

Lastly: I think BEM-S4 is alluding to Bimmertech's aftermarket Screen Mirroring package, which isn't quite the same thing but could work for your needs. All it does is allow your screen to show the screen of something else. To my knowledge, Bimmertech's CarPlay Activation service only works with iDrive 4.0., but in case I'm wrong, use this link to check if your car is compatible with that service.

Was actually thinking of this but you'd have to check your particular car. My knowledge stops at "it exists" and I have no details beyond that.

Backing the whole conversation up though, have you used it before and do you like it? I personally hate it and GF almost crashed a loaner while using it. If not I'd suggest first step is a visit to dealer for a demo.
