Yes, my 228i is my only car. I've only just hit the 26k mile mark after 6 years!

I have considered getting a second car because I'll be starting a longer commute in heavy traffic (whenever I return to the office) and want to keep the 2 as pristine as possible... perhaps I'll pick up an E39 sedan or Touring.

Nope. F22 for nice weather and weekends, E46 for everything else, shopping runs, etc. E24 has been neglected as of late truthfullly.

It's all I have, though the GF has a Camry (which I hate driving). '16 M235i XDrive.

But man. I'm not gonna lie, that Macan GTS drove pretty phenomenally. Yeah, it doesn't handle as well as say my M2, but it's very very good. If i lived somewhere with terrible pavement and lots of dirt roads, I would maybe consider one, as much as it pains me to say so.

And really, i can't blame anyone else for driving one at this point.
My wife has a base Macan on the 18” all season tires. Its handling has shocked me. It’s really only a few mph slower than my M240i on back roads (and I’m running Pilot Super Sports).

2er (MT) is my fun weekend/summer/whenevr I feel like it car..

I drive an MK7 AT Golf daily, does 2x better on fuel consumption too! Everytime I jump into either I'm reminded of why I love them both!

Twice as good on fuel consumption??
That would be 40 mpg US on average, which is way better than I have seen reported for a Golf. What's your secret? Or do you only use it for highway driving at 50 mph/80 k/h?

The 2017 m240i cabriolet (6 speed) is the fun car, only had it for about 3 months. It replaced a MINI Cooper S cabriolet (terrible blind spots).

The "family" car is a Volvo XC60 T6, we've had this for 8 years now!

My summer car is a 1968 MGC, had it for almost 25 years!

Interesting history. I replaced my 2011 MINI Cooper S Hardtop with my M235 convertible. Had my MINI been a vert, I might still have it. My first car (40 years ago) purchased with $500 of my own money was a 1969 MGC roadster. Loved that car until I totaled it one very late night in Wisconsin when I fell asleep driving back to college Freshman year. I tried to find a way to purchase parts and repair it, but decided it wasn't worth the investment at the time.

I alternate between my '15 235 and my '08 charger srt8 . It's an interesting dynamic having near 400hp/tq on an inline 6 turbo vs a 6.1 NA V8. That low end raw power of a V8 is addicting to say the least lol.

The charger was my DD for a long time but now is my casual cruiser or if im lugging the friends or family around. I like driving the 235 more but sometimes gotta take a break from rowing gears. Let's just say the charger fills my power needs, handling is a different story, until I get back into the bimmer.

Man, massive blind spots are just a dealbreaker for me these days. I’d have considered saving some money and seriously checking out a camaro SS or something, but no. I’m planning on seeing out of my car thank you very much.

One of the most underrated aspects of the 2 series.

M240i is our "once in a while" car, our 2019 Cooper S w/ JCW tune "BMW lite", is our "every once in a while" car.

We've had several MINIs over the years going back to 2004, they've always been fun little cars. The last one was a 2016 Cooper S cabriolet, we had never had one before. When the top is up, the C pillars are enormous, very hard to back out, kind of reminded me of my old Toyota FJ we used to have. When the top is down, it's not flush with the rear deck, again, very hard to see behind you.

We traded it in for the m240, no complaints from me.

It's very hard to find a new car given the following requirements:

1 - convertible
2 - rear seats for the kids/dog
3 - manual transmission

It also needs to be fairly small, we have a very narrow (7 foot) driveway!

Cheers,

That is interesting, an m235/240 and an MGC are such different cars!

Here's a pic of my MG... As you know, the MGC is quite rare and you're right, it wouldn't have been worth the investment to repair your totaled car at the time.

I love it! My Dad used to race MGTF's when I was a kid. They raced on airport tracks and sometimes in between paved strips in the grass. So exciting as a kid and what a thrill when the race was over my Dad would take me around the track. I got involved in midget racing for a while because of this. Now I want to track my 230i more as I think back.

My 235 is my DD, and essentially my only car. I do most of the Home Depot trips with it, and haul more than you might think.

My wife has a Golf Sportwagen, so I have access to a marginally bigger car, and she prefers it for road trips. But it's still on the small side compared to all the big-ass SUV's and full trucks our neighbors have. We get teased a lot about owning two 'little' cars.

228i replaced an '05 Subaru Outback as our DD. Now the Subaru is my wife's car when we need both cars (infrequent) or when I need to haul stuff that wont fit in the little bimmer (common).

M235i is my only car and DD. I also think you can haul much more than you may think

If you have a large family this may not be the right car but for me it works:
- 105 thousand miles mostly no issues
- After six years the car still seem new
- Winter tires get me through New England no problem
- 400 mile drives into Canada. During harsh winter. All perfectly comfortable
- She has gone to the track but mostly to carry her stable mate. She knows that when its time to really have fun she can't deliver
- I can carry my kayak and large items if needed. I get "irritated" looks from many truck drivers though when I tow. Probably because they only carry a wallet in their big truck.

This is all to say. You can have just an M235i and be extremely happy .

The 228 was not my only car. I owned and still have a 2012 X3. I plan on getting a 2016 M235 next year. New ones are out of my budget.
