Going on away for 6 months (question about storage)
I will be deploying soon and would like to know if there's any preparation I need to do for my m240i. I understand that the battery is different from other cars. Can I just disconnect the battery and reconnect when I get back?

I'd throw a battery tender on it, 6 months really is not that big of a deal for that. (yes you can just unhook it as well)
Can anyone drive it for you once a month? It's hard on tires to sit in one spot for long periods of time, and if someone starts it up and drives it around the block it will keep them round. (fuel stabilizer is a good idea if not for condensation issues in the tank, and I've seen people jack theirs up and remove the tires just to be safe) |

Read this and pick up the BMW or house branded version of a CTEK....
https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1742718 A bottle of STABIL in the empty tank, then fill to full Tires to maximum cold inflation, as shown on the sidewall. Google "tire saver ramps"....you'll find some inexpensive but sturdy yellow plastic ones. Park on those. Thank you for your service!

Drop it round my house. I only do 3k miles a year so in 6 months I'd keep it ticking over with next to no miles.

My wife will be here but she's doesn't know how to drive manual. Thanks for the info. I was only thinking of the battery, didn't know about tires prep. |

If you go with Race Ramps version - Flatstoppers - you do not need to inflate your tires to max. I spoke with them at length one day, for their product at least there's no benefit to doing so. Maybe not a big deal for you being gone for 6 mos, matters more in my case I swap my cars back and forth (one in storage) for a month at a time.

Ha, nope! I did max inflate the first year but since I am swapping cars more often it's much easier not to. My OCD is such that I even called to ask them if I should have a separate set for each car - in case they mold the the specific weight or tire. Took them a minute to realize I was actually serious, then they told me nope no benefit.
