No, I do; it's just that I don't turn wrenches, and so I see things like this as a black box. That's where the questions are coming from.

(It also explains why I never went club racing. Having watched a friend/driver discovering he needed an alternator change at last call to line-up clued me in to the fact that I'd need a team with me to make a go of it. Not my cup of tea. IIRC, he still won his class (MT3); he got the fresh alternator on in no time flat, that's for sure.)

Thank you very much.

I'd probably have taken it to Jake just to check in with him and see how he's doing. Heck, I might just do that, anyway. I have got to get out of this house – I've been inside for months now, except for outdoor exercise. lol
Jake would probably think that was really cool. He's doing really well, very busy, lots of cool cars in there right now.

I was there today actually, I'm only about 30 mins away.

I also just thought of Tc Kline. I know they are in Ohio, but I also know nothing about Ohio, so they could be 10 hours away from you haha.

Good thinking re: TC, as he did all of my installs except for the front sway bar and the Dinan V2 box. I don't know why I didn't think of him, as he's a great guy and can do anything any BMW might need. Since then, I've been using an independent shop in Cincinnati that he recommended.

No, when you're in flyover country, anything less than eight hours is a short(ish) hop, and TC's only ninety minutes away. Heck, I made the Denver-San Francisco run one day in my M6 in time to get home, clean up, and arrive at a restaurant in time for an 8:30 PM dinner engagement. Best day ever in a GT car, which is what my M240i is to me.

I like your style. I put about 20k+ on my m235 every year. I only live 7 miles from my office, so it's pretty much only from joy riding and adventures.

I love Tc too. I have coils and camber plates on the e36 and camber plates on the m235. Their customer service is great.

Any thoughts on Redline DCTF for tranny ? 2 different BMW shops (and Redline) said the dual clutch was way to go...much different than the ATF4 ? I'm mostly street with occ. light track. thx
I haven't heard of people using the dct fluid on our cars. I've been told d4 atf for normal with mixed track use, and MTL for strictly track use.

yea we have thread that discusses Lt5 equilvlent and Redline says ATF4 better for colder temps. (Dave their head tech) They rec. DCTF for warmer temps, although they are very close apparently. Think I'll call and clarify again.

I would give bimmerworld a call. Redline wouldn't recommend something incorrectly, but I wonder what benefit there is vs D4

if you care lol

Spoke with Dave @ Redline for a bit, and they rec. the DCTF for newer BMW manual transmissions. This is the closest to Lt5, and ATF4 is close (covers Lt2 and still under BMW allowed) the coverage for wear and tear is better with DCTF, and you'd be hard pressed to notice difference with viscosity.

MTL is obviously higher and colder temps could change feel etc.

Premium GL-4 Dexron III ATF for pre-2006 automatics and manual transmissions - smooth, quick, consistent shifting

BimmerWorld still has older rec of D4ATF up, but that could change

That's good info. I'm due for a replacement. Maybe I'll try out some of that. The cost difference between the two is negligible.

Good info 4Hockey4, I actually misspoke, I run DCTF and that's what is recommended on their site if I'm not mistaken.

I didn't like the "notchiness" of my 6 speed transmission and asked Turner Service for recommendations. They suggested Redline DCTF and I have been running it since June. Really like the shift feel now and have no complaints - I wonder though what I miss not having a short shift kit like the Rogue

Will see what it feels during cold temps, but I think this is worth giving a try.

Turner Service used to be called Turner Motorsports Service. They work out of the same garage in Amesbury, MA asa the turner Motorsports team. Very happy with them!

Redline said DCTF good for cold, so you shouldn't have any issues. If there is another decent SSK like the Rogue, get it.

For the fluid experts among us, any particular reason to switch from the OEM BMW fluid for the southwest where it never really gets cold?

Not an expert, not close. I have heard great things about Redline, and after getting dealer price per quart, ordered all Redline fluids. I'm sure you can get better OEM prices online, few Bimmer folks swear by them.

Also dealership said no issues with warranty etc, so no brainer for me.

Even in the summer I think it feels much better than oem. It will probably be a bit nicer to your synchros too

Sooo my Turner "stock" knob will not fit on new Rogue...clearly not OEM. 2 shops and Dealer played with...came home and old one popped on fine.

Any suggestions on solid aftermarket knobs that you guys are using on this Rogue SSK ?

thx

Not aftermarket, but I am using a "f80 m3 lci m perf" (I think) shifter. I picked it up off m3 classifieds and adapted it to the plastic trim from our shifters.

One thing that I noticed after installing my friends is that if you have a very new knob that hasn't been taken on and off a bunch, it takes a ton of force to get it seated. Way more force than you would ever think was okay to use.

yea well, we all hammered it good, shop and dealership...think its the knob since old one popped right on.

Also - the DCTF fluid from Redline is amazing, wow what a difference

I just refreshed with d4. I was in a time crunch and could get d4 faster. Next summer I will try the dctf.

I was surprised how much difference it made, well to be fair it was "fresh" but car only at 30K

It really is crazy. My fresh d4 didn't make a huge difference when compared to 2 year old d4, but I can still remember the gigantic improvement over stock fluid.

Think this thread needs a bump. I'm still floored, amazed ? How good this thing is. My knob is on, I'll figure out something later, but I can't believe BMW doesnt do this type of set up in their manuals.

I'm proceeding with mods but outside of LSD maybe, I doubt anything else will change my view of driving this car more. (even BMW tech commented on recently)

Other mid/long term thoughts ?
