snow and ice

Hi: I've had maybe 8 BMWs in my life.Whenever there's a snowfall and I open the trunk, there's an avalanche of ice and snow that falls inside the trunk. Are all cars like this, or just our beloved Bimmers? Jack

I haven't noticed my 235 being any worse than any other car with a trunk. I think my Altima was actually a bit worse.

It has to do with the BMWs hinges design ....

Have you owned any other cars?
Have you considered brushing off the ice and snow before opening the trunk?
Or is the brush in the trunk?
We had our first snowfall of the year the other day, a couple of inches, and already there were idiots driving around who had not cleared their windows.

You're welcome. I remember my first car and having to learn all the typical things to do when it snows! I keep a snow rake in my car for quick easy removal.

My response was serious. Do you have evidence or experience that this type of occurrence is worse or more prevalent with BMWs than with other vehicles?
If so, then yes, maybe it has something to do with the type of hinge that BMW uses.
If not, then do the experiment on a vehicle that uses the old school hinge type that used to be found on North American cars and let us know the result.

It could also be some sort of special Canadian snow that we don't get here and that's why it falls in.
