CarPlay in iOS 13 - First impressions - Full Screen

So iOS 13 is due to drop today and wanted to ask what folks think of the update.

I have the Fullscreen hack on my car so first thing I'm curious about is if that will work / work correctly. I think it should, but we'll see.

Will see if I can get it installed today and will post updates. Wasn't willing to put a beta release on my day to day phone and my previous phone was too old to accept the update.

See quick review with pictures below!

Installed iOS 13 today and gave it a quick look. CarPlay didn't connect first try, but after turning it off and back on again, it worked.

It looks really good. Fullscreen still works. The split screen seems to only work with Apple Maps. Seeing how I can make it work with Waze, but honestly I prefer full screen for maps anyway.

Here are some pics:

So far so good with iOS 13. 2 days of connections are reliable, will see if it holds up better than iOS 11/12 (had to reconnect from time to time). Fonts are a lot smaller on many apps, would prefer larger layouts. Native Podcasts app is slightly laggier. Slightly better menu navigation.

I got it from oem navigations. Doesn't look like it will let me put a link so folks will have to look them up.

The original install I did via a USB flash drive and was pretty darn simple. After taking my car in for service and them doing an update, it was wiped out. If you have the newer "NBTevoPXXXX" (which you will have after the update) you have to update via an ENET cable and a Windows laptop. This method is a bit more involved.

It's WELL worth it, though. Having maps in full screen is much much nicer.

"From what I hear" it really just goes in and changes a setting ... one that you can't set with Bimmercode I'm afraid. It's really annoying that BMW won't make this option available via an update. The fullscreen works perfectly and have had zero issues with it. The only reason I can fathom is that they are purposely crippling the older system to encourage people to buy a newer model. I had one of the new 3ers as a loaner and I have to say that other than a slightly bigger screen, if you are using CarPlay most of the time for maps that there is little in the new system I'd really care about.

Just a quick update - will note that I've had CarPlay crash about 4 times now, usually during startup. Most of the time it comes back in about 30 seconds, but I've also had to turn it off and on again.

Also, someone else seemed to check and looks like the split screen functionality in CarPlay only works with Apple Maps

but again, I prefer to have maps on the entire screen. Once I've started listening to something I don't really see the purpose of it taking up screen space to tell me what I'm listening to.

I updated to iOS 13 last night. I see the new car play GUI but I'm not getting full screen on the iDrive screen. Is there a setting that needs adjusting?

From my experience, it now requires reprogramming via a Windows Laptop. There are a few folks that offer software. Night and day, I really recommend getting the full screen.
