And in these photos, is the PHONE CHARGER plug the cigarette lighter plug as well?

Hi. Sorry for the delay. Yes, the oem plug is the one going to the cigarette lighter port. Also, regardless of your wiring difference in your car, the oem cigarette lighter is where you will tap for power.

If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to pop that small tray and lid out of your console. You'll know once you disassemble the console and if you see tabs and or screws to remove that type of tray. You might see how it lines up with nothing in place where the tray would be but you can also just get the tray like mine and pop it in. I'm fairly sure it just pops in.

fmzip that's the same as my car. The one advantage is that you do not have to remove the drive selector switch from the console assembly on our vehicles. You can see my post above and the back and forth between bmtespar .

So you simply removed the eyeglass holder and the charging base fit right in? How did you secure it to the trim bezel? Tape as well?

I actually didn't have the eyeglass holder in mine. I simply had the cubby with a mat. I found that it fit better taking bmtespar's suggestion about removing the backplate from the charger. I then secured it with double sided tape as well (I used clear Gorilla Glue clear mounting tape so instead of white double sided foam tape so that there was no risk of white showing through anywhere).

Do either of you have the technology package? Just thought about this, if the phone isn't plugged into the USB in the glovebox, do I lose features?

I do, but I have IDrive 6 in my car so I have BMW Apps over BT and wireless CarPlay so I don't need that functionality. Yes, you will if you have IDrive 4.

The whole piece comes out together and you can unplug the switch quite easily. I would not recommend you do it the other way because the top piece of the drive mode switch assembly is quite fragile where it connects to the bottom. Also, I didn't quite do the wiring the way the bmtespar did. I used the passthrough harness that came with the charger and simply cut off the ends and replaced them with spades and flags.

Otherwise, his instructions were extremely helpful. I have the pre-LCI car without the cover over the cupholders so the mat fits without disassembling it ... but I did anyway and it looks so much better that way.

The only thing is I lost one of the T20 screws for my iDrive controller. Fortunately, it's pretty tight with two and sits right on top of another piece so it doesn't move at all.
Sorry to revive an old thread but could you possible take a picture of the way you did your harness? I just got this in the mail and tackling it pretty soon. Thanks!

Sorry, I no longer have the car so can't help you with a pic. It's fairly easy to figure out once you look at the pieces.

I managed to get it installed and looks really great. I am having an issue that it would pause the charging intermittently when I begin charging my phone, did you have a similar issue?

Sounds like potentially a bad charger. Does the charger start flashing red instead of blue?

My leds light up a little odd in terms of what colors mean what.

green = charging
blue = not charging
red = charging completed

I also have not figured out what green flashing means (Ive seen this one once or twice)

Finished my install today.

I decided to keep the unit in tact and used doublesided tape to hold it down.

The issue I ran into after removing the sunglass holder, there was nothing to tape or glue to. Solved the problem by using a piece of wood. Took a few screws and secured it into the wood from the sides. This way if I ever have to go back to stock, no problem at all.

Any chance anyone has done this and successfully enabled the "phone left in car" warning?

I have a 428i, which appears to have the same console. This walkthrough helped me immensely. I ordered a used cup holder with ashtray cover on eBay, and retrofitted the wireless charger onto the lower half of the ashtray cover. Came together pretty well, thanks for y’all’s insight!

sorry to bump this, but does anyone know if the console size will be the same for a F20 1 series?

I hated the wireless charger offered in the 2 series being under the armrest since you have wrench your body around to open the armrest and then set the phone into a charging tray and inadvertently leaving the phone behind upon exit. So I did some research and found this aftermarket wireless charger made to go in front of the cup holders. It features a nice grippy mat to hold the phone and lights blue while charging the phone and will change color in case of some issue. It offered a plug and play adapter so no hacking into the factory harness and also provided an in-line fuse. It looked very oem and said it would fit the 2 series, 3 series and 4 series so I went for it. The vendor asked me to measure my tray which I did and said it would fit.

I received the item today and was disappointed that it did not fit and after tearing the console apart, I discovered the wiring harness was the wrong type of plugs. After going through all of the trouble of dismantling the console, I was determined to make it work. I altered the charging base and made my own harness using male and female spades to make it all work.

So here is the removal, alteration and install process via pictures. I'm thrilled with the finished product. It looks great, no factory wires were cut and the beverage tray still opens and closes with ease. I hope this helps others install this much requested mod.

This is the product I purchased: https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/...Id=32948147108

I coded to turn on the phone left on charger warning and I get the option on the screen to enable the feature but nothing else happens when I turn off the car and open the door. I'm thinking it must be specific to the charger under the armrest. Oh well, was worth a shot.

Here is that code:
