Poke... 18" wheels, what can I get away with for width?

I'm shopping for a new set of summer wheels for my sunset orange 230i. I'm getting winter tires fitted on the stock rims and using those for my winter setup.

Me being me, I'm already looking at what I'm going to do once spring comes around, gotta really find the exact right wheels... obsessively looking at pretty much everything that's out there.

I'm set on 18". Not a big fan of the way 19" looks on a 2-er... (personal preference.) This would all be simpler if I could do 19" because the m-performance 19"s are really nice otherwise...

But how wide can I go? I'm trying to stay within the local laws and regulations, and they are strict when it comes to wheels poking past the edge of the fender. Tire and rim both has to be inside the edge in an area 30 degrees forward and 50 degrees behind the centerline of the wheel, no exceptions.

I've borrowed this picture from Turner Motorsport and illustrated the area where it has to be inside the edge of the fenders:

From what I've read and seen, it looks like 18x8.5 et35 is right on the edge where it almost is up to luck whether it'll stay fully inside - and could vary based on the exact alignment of my car. If it matters, my 230i has the adaptive suspension option.

I've halfheartedly tried to eyeball it based on the amount of poke that willtheyfit.com calculates for a difference from my stock wheels and it just looks like there isn't much room, and 18x8.5 et35 seems just a bit too pokey.

Would love to order a nice set of APEX EC7Rs with the gorgeous brushed finish, I think it'd go very nicely with the car. But I'm hesitant, because illegal wheels - even if it is just barely illegal - could be a bit of a bother.

The only other really nice wheel that really has caught my eye is the Volk G27. They are available in 18x8 ET45, and that seems like a more conservative and safe fitting given that I really want to stay within the rules here in Norway.

So... any advice? Am I right in my gut feeling that 18x8.5" ET35 would be a bit of a gamble?

Would 18x8" ET45 be 100% safe?

I have Apex 18x8.5 et35 on my F23 and they are perfectly fine. The local BMW dealer ordered them for me, in fact. I'd either get those or Vorsteiner VF-108. I have Vorsteiner on my F31 and love them.

Apex has a fitment guide for the f22/23 platform

18x8 +45 will definitely be safe.

I know Apex 18x8.5 et35 is fine otherwise, and a well-tested fitment with no rubbing or suspension clearance issues. But the problem is that the rules here are super-strict when it comes to wheels poking past the edge of the fender.

(Heck, there's even several wheels in 18x8.5 et35 where I can find TÜV papers, so *everything* else about this size is fine.)

Its a bit annoying to be honest. Seems like our rules are much stricter than the rest of the world for this one minor detail.

It seems like I just have to play it safe and go for no more than 18x8 to be certain that it'll be fine.

The pictures that jooksingjai77 linked, and most others I've seen of this sort of fitting it just - seems like it will poke a tiny bit too much.

I guess I could just ignore the stupid law and just hope it won't be noticed...
