2016/ 228i coupe 4yr <20k Tires!!
Outside wear on front Michelin’s non-rflt. Very staid driver (retired).
Not unidirectional, but stamp on tire wall states “Outside”. Should I rotate? What replacement is recommended? Houston. No winter tires are necessary. Thanks you. |

Rotation won't help you (outside will always be where the wear occurs). This is due to limited camber, and I suspect also b/c they put a fat tire on the smallest rim so the sidewall isn't optimal. I've had much better luck with a combo of 1/2" wider wheels and Potenza s007 tires - almost the same tread pattern, and to me about as good in the rain as the Conti's I replaced (those were equivalent to the MPSS, and wore out the outside edge like yours did). The Potenza's have held up to tracking and hard street use MUCH better, and in Houston there should be even less concern about compromises in colder wet weather. If you are a really staid driver, you might also check your alignment to make sure you have proper camber and toe - mine didn't show much edge wear until I took them on track, but I didn't get to 20k miles with them either.

My 230 wore out the rear rear tires in 35,000, mostly on the outside. Now at 45,000 it's time for a pair of winter tires. I'll move the newer rears to the front and am thinking of having them dismounted and flipped. I don't think they say "outside".
