M235i top speed - is it really limited ?
Can anyone tell me whether the top speed on the M235i is electronically limited to 130 mph or not ?
I am reading conflicting information on this: BMW USA's site (M235i specs page) shows the top speed as limited at 130 mph and next to it shows [155], which I take it to be the actual top speed if there was no limiter. On the other hand, the test drive report I saw on Car & Driver's site shows the top speed reached on track as 155 mph. If it is limited indeed, it will be a deterrent from getting an M235i. I mean, why pay for 320 horses if you will never be able to use them all ? Any information will be very much appreciated. |

SmallTownBoy,
what is a good deal on a lease for the M235i ? I am looking for a 2- or 3-year lease. I sat in one the other day ... I really don't like that console they have put to the right of the dashboard. He said it is for showing the status of the various electronic instruments, and all that, which I really don't care about. It takes up space and adds weight for no useful function. Does your car have this as well ? Do you find it useful at all ? |

As for me, I'm in Canada and our deals (especially for ED) and lease rates can't compare to the U.S. I bought mine and took ED on March 8. I highly recommend it! My "console" is smaller since I did not get Nav. |

155 is the electronic limit with the better tires, but the car will be able to go faster based on the gearing if the limiter is taken off. I imagine the car will be able to hi 170-180.

If you buy a M235 with all/season tires and the restricted top speed, if you go to the dealer at a later time and have summer performance tires with higher speed rating installed - can the dealer techs remove the top speed restrictor of the car?

But it still says nothing about run-flats getting a decreased limiter. |

It would contradict the fact that I got the increased speed for selecting MSport package on my 228, but they only come with runflats. Never saw anything about the tires changing it at all.

Summer (w/ higher speed limiter) All-seasons (e.g. run flats/lower speed limiter) The only exception is the poster who somehow got Bridgestone Summer RFT. Who knows what he got for speed limiter (one way to find out though ![]() |

Check the guides. Selecting the a/s tire option "deletes" the high speed limiter. Confirmed it several times with BMW before I bought. Sounds like you need a new genius.

M Sport on 228 gets you summer performance run flats not all season unless you want all season. I do not believe that the summer performance run flats are limited to 130. I had my E93 335 up to 141 with Bridgestone Summer Performance run flats the original factory tires and I doubt my speedometer was off 11 mph.
