U0079 Code 2015 M235i

I went outside this morning to my car not unlocking, used the key, and it was very dead.

Gave it a jump and it was fine until I got to my destination (about an hour or so went by) and it didn’t start, didn’t even crank just clicked but wasn’t COMPLETELY dead like in the morning.

I’m not sure what would’ve caused the issue, but it is throwing the code U0079. I looked up the common issues such as the water pump staying on and it did come on after shutting off the car but it only seemed like 30 seconds then shut off. Anyone have any ideas why it is dying so fast or what the code means?

How old is your battery? Do you have a voltage meter to check it, or can you take it to an AutoZone or similar parts store to have them put the battery on a tester?

What he said. Battery is the very first thing to check, you can get totally random codes if it is weak.

Code U0079 indicates a communication issue in the car’s Control Area Network (CAN), potentially caused by a module drawing excessive current when the car is off.
The water pump running briefly is normal, but if it stays on too long, it could drain the battery; a parasitic drain test can confirm.
