Brake system idrive warning

I have a '16 with 47k miles and just got this message on idrive stating my pad(s) is low. The pads look like they have plenty of life left (car is a DD and has never been tracked) so I think it's just a bad sensor. I have BM3 but the code does not show up in diagnostics, how do I know which sensor to replace? I can't find any more info in idrive.

There's only one on each end of the car, I would pull the wheels off and do some digging around.

This BMW tool (or a cheaper equivalent) may be useful if you want to see how much thickness each pad still has:
https://www.tillmantools.com/Baum-To.../bmt341260.htm
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/83300492467/.

I'm not sure if you can measure the pads on the inside of the calipers with this tool. If not, I'd try measuring each outside pad and then eyeball its inside counterpart to estimate its thickness.

dradernh , those depth gauges are interesting. I haven't seen those before.

However, I find a simple set of width gauges to be accurate enough for quickly checking brake pad thickness. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Steelman-9784.../dp/B003QHSHMW

These are steel, sturdy, work quickly, and are easy to poke in for a quick comparison of how much pad materiel is left. Don't necessarily even have to touch the pads with them as you can eyeball comparison if you get them close.

best is to take the pads out... sometimes it's hard to tell the thickness as they usually don't wear evenly
