Master cylinder / booster leak
Hey guys,
I had the kick panel off last week and noticed brake fluid on the brake servo dust boot. Brought it to the dealer since I had like 4 days left on the warranty period. So the dealer says can't do this under warranty since the car has stainless brake lines. Seriously? I understand mods bring risk but do not see how brake lines can cause a leak in either the master cylinder or brake servo. Dealer didn't even push it forward to BMW NA until I have them authorization for 1 hr of tech time. Anyone experience any issues with a leak like this?

Very rarely you find newer BMW with a leaking MC, but it can happen. Can you verify that it is brake fluid?

So not sure what it is. Actually as long as it is not the MC / brake booster I'm fine. Leaking MC would have been a first for me over 5 BMWs, so thanks for confirming this is indeed not common. What really got me was the claim that because I had stainless brake lines that was the issue and they weren't going to go further. Didn't seem like it would be related but oh well I paid the one hour of tech time. The dealers probably have things like this happen all the time with modded cars and need to take a position so they don't bleed out on every warranty type claim.

Stainless lines shouldn't void your warranty though. The dealership would have to validate the cause.
Perhaps it was some sort of lubricant used during assembly or "sweating" a rubberized product. |
