window auto up/down issue

I noticed that sometimes when I close all my windows using the one touch button the window usually the passenger front one goes up half way then down while all the other windows close regularly.

Anyone else experienced this issue.

If this occurs only sometimes, the dealer might not be able to duplicate the issue. Wouldn't hurt though to bring it up when you are in for service since you are still under warranty.

one common cause of a window going down like that is that it has lost sync, doesn't know how far up it is, so it runs down to the stop to know it's location. why it would lose sync, i do not know.

Strangely, it reminded me of my 1978 E12 530i, a car with manual windows. That is, hand cranks lowered and raised each window. This saved who knows how many pounds per door compared to today's cars.

When I read the OP's issues, I thought: maybe manual windows weren't so bad.

Thanks for this. Will look into. Was also thinking Anti-trap might have something to do with it as well. As it happens once in a while.

I have had this issue on a 2008 118i Convertible (Europe)
a 2013 135i Convertible (USA)
and now my 2019 M240i Convertible (USA).

The issue is that when you CLOSE the door you push against the WINDOW.

Now, your window is slightly inwards because of all the pushes.

So, when your rear quarter panel is closing, it actually pushes the front window to where it should be.

This causes the anti-pinch sensor to be like: WHOA there.

Solution: close your door by pushing the DOOR, not the window.

Thanks for the advise. However I never touch the window to close the door. I barley touch the door in general. I hate fingerprints

I had to get the BMW service department to do a window reset after experiencing something similar to what you describe. It was done during a standard service. I mentioned it to them when I was booking the car in and they seemed to recognise the issue straight away. My car is garaged and if I say so myself, I keep it pretty clean, so I don't think it was anything related to a dirty glass surface stopping the glass from moving smoothly. It seemed more to do with it being a convertible, and the coordination needed between the windows and the roof mechanism. Since it was reset, it hasn't happened again in 2 years.

Ugh I remember this post and now its happening to me.

Single window roll up, no problem. Roll up all the windows at the same time using either the all-window button or holding the top up button, it only happens to the drivers window and about 3 inches from the top.

I assumed it would be the window binding and it assumed it hit something and reversed. But I went up and down 20 times pushing on the window all kinds of ways, I never got it to happen while I was pushing on the glass as it went up, so I dont think its binding. It always seems to happen at the exact same place, right as the rear window closes. And it seems to happen more when the car is not running or at idle. I tried to get it to happen a few times while driving and it never did.

So I have a theory its voltage related. All four windows are going up, so a big voltage draw. When the back window hits the top there is a quick voltage draw between when it hits the top and actually turns off. And it seems to happen more with motor off or at idle, when the alternator is doing its least work.

I think I remember seeing something in Bimmercode where you can set the delay between the front and rear windows going up. Next time I have time I think I'm gona screw with that and see if it effects this happening.
