I've only had my M240i for a couple of weeks! The little things that bother me include:

1) Passenger seat belt chatter in the wind when the top is down...even with windows up. Geez...my Miata SE had a nice little plastic piece to hold the seat belt tongue in place.

2) The stereo doesn't remember the shuffle setting for my playlist on my connected iPod.

3) Although I know I can code it, the mirrors don't automatically fold-in on locking of the doors.

4) The rear headrests don't fold down. Nice feature in the Mustang. Makes for much more viewing area in the rear window!

5) Only one USB port

6) Ashtray not easily replaced with a deeper cubby.

7) Seriously...only ONE tripometer? It's a 2017! My 2002 Miata had two!

8) If the volume is muted, my iPod shows as unavailable!

9) Front air dam...like most air dams...is too low for a standard curb!

Bought my '21 M240IX sight unseen from a dealer in another state without even haven driven one. Read this entire post and a couple hundred more before buying it. Coming from a '10 Golf R which had better tech (that was also annoying at times) this is definitely the better car for me. More basic, not fwd biased, better power delivery without having to worry about which gear it is in to deliver the power. Too much tech can ruin a car imho and i think this one has a good balance so far.

You can lay them flat in a horizontal position. But not folded down completely to the seat backs. Should be a round black button up near the top on the side if I remember right.

Only on the coupe, not the convertible. With the vert, you can remove them, or at least you used to be able to remove them. I'm not sure if it's still an option - long thread somewhere here about that and some folks say you can't do it any more and others have been able to. I've never had a rear seat passenger in over 4 years and I have been traveling without the rear headrests for nearly the whole time I've had my vert.

Annoying!

What's your number one pet peeve with your 2 series?
Lack of spare tire.

You can still remove the rear head rests in the Vert. Almost all cars no longer come with a spare tire.

My gripe with my first 2 series? The same gripe I have had with all of the 4 previously owned and three currently owned BMWs. Why is the speedometer off by 2 miles an hour to the high side. Don't you trust us?

Every BMW that I have owned in the last 20 years has had an optimistic speedometer, with standard wheels.
Maybe they are trying to save us from ourselves!

European cars stay within the ECE-39 regulation that says (as one of the criteria) the speedometer can never show less than the actual speed. To take care of tyre diameter variations from manufacturer to manufacturer and tread depth differences, they are always conservative to ensure they stay within this regulations requirements. The odometers will always be more accurate though, but could be over or under the reported distance due to tyre variations: https://www.interregs.com/catalogue/.../speedometers/

Every car I've owned had an optimistic speedometer - usually 2 to 3 MPH higher than reality. I think the manufacturers do this for legal reasons.

Got a compact spare strapped down in
the small trunk of our M240i.
For that matter our R55 MINI JCW Clubman
has a compact spare along with a spare tire
well for it to tuck into without stealing
valuable space.

^ This – for at least the last four decades in the cars I've owned.

If I'm going somewhere and care about my speed along the way, I stick my Garmin up next to the A-pillar and use it to tell me how fast I'm going.

I can't stay in 8th gear in sport mode...drives me crazy. Smart that they fixed this in the M240.

The windscreen gets pocked up way easier than anything I’ve ever owned.. and I’ve had a few low cars.. the glass just seems more fragile than others, but I don’t understand how that’s possible. Already thinking of replacing it after 3 years because it’s so bad at night with oncoming traffic glare.

Edit: by “it” I mean the glass, not the car. Just in case lol

There are three things I dislike about our 2016 228i cabriolet.

1) Horrible steering. Overboosted and total lack of steering feel. Hey BMW....buy a Miata and copy.
2) Sport seats. Cramped and insufficiently padded. Granted I am older, but come on, the side bolsters on the seat bottom just plain need more padding or to be made less aggressive.
3) Throttle tip in is too aggressive, hard to get a smooth start in normal driving.

I'm glad to say the things I like are an even longer list, but that's for another thread.

Not an intuitive heat/defrost system, especially since it's pretty cold here now....

That the clock loses time in cold weather. Drove it this morning for the first time since Tuesday night only to find the clock was 3hrs behind.

And no, this is not a battery issue. I've experienced this since a month after the car was new in 2016, I'm still on the original battery and I've never had an issue starting in cold weather.

Regardless of spelling, the time loss thing is weird. Years ago, I had a boss who was a physicist. His 325 kept on losing time, in small increments, and it drove him nuts. I have never had this problem, though, with any of the BMWs we have owned over the last 20 years.

Based on how accurate the clock is on cold days, I'd better keep my time loose, because I'll never be on time!
