What would it actually take to fit a 10J wheel in the rear?
All,
I have a local acquaintance willing to part with a set of BBS LM's, my dream wheels - in 17x9et45 (will fit in front no problem) and 17x10et45 rear - for a price that I'm having trouble believing. So my question is this: how much work would it actually take to fit a 17x10 in the rear of an F22? I'm currently running a 255/40/17 on a 17x9et42 with no problem, have seen that a x9.5et38-52 is a somewhat popular fitment, and have seen poorly documented threads and even photos (not good ones, mind you) of x10et50 working. Examples: Example 1 Example 2 So, any advice? I'm thinking I could have a machinist mill the backpad from an et45 to an et50 with a reasonable safety margin. Then it's just about determining inboard suspension clearance and outboard fender clearance. Has anyone done a 10J wheel? Will milling the backpad cause brake caliper clearance issues? Can you actually roll the bonded outer fender? Does anyone make rear camber arms to gain more than the 1.8-ish deg you get from maxing the stock adjustment range? Can the fuel filler neck be relocated to gain inner clearance, and is that at all safe or reasonable? Could I just order new BBS 9.5J barrels with the proper width and offset to mount the faces on if a 10J is truly unworkable?

Check out the specs on the factory M235R and M240R some of which are still racing in US series or club racing I recall They are running a 18 x 10 24 et
"Black 18″ BBS wheels are mounted with 265/35 Dunlop Direzza 03G tires. The body is custom-designed using flares and extensions unique to the M235i body shell and necessary to clear the 10.0" wide wheels" https://www.bmwblog.com/2018/09/20/b...g-evo-package/ I also recall one or more of our members modifying their stock F22 for racing with body modifications to fit larger tires Agree that 1.9 -2.0 is max stock negative camber at least based on my experience with a local BMW shop and my 2017 M240. |
