How can I determine the type of differential fitted to my 2017 m240i Lci which no longer has the label with the code above?
I attach photos of the differential |

From what I remember, the M Performance LSD is visually identical to a stock open diff. Your best bet is probably the good old fashioned, put both wheels in the air and see which way they spin.

sorry, I wasn't clear, my differential is open, I already know that, I would like to understand if it is a 188LW or a 215LW...

unfortunately you'd have to lower the diff and check the part number located on the top.

I looked at the top of the diff with a mirror but unfortunately the white label with the BMW OEM code is no longer there…

hmm. perhaps there is a way to calculate the final drive using the rolling diameter of the rear wheels and inputting them into a calculator to find out what RPM's produce what speeds? This may be the only way outside of that. Unless there is a way to check in ISTA. I have heard of some people mentioning a "relearn final gear ratio" button somewhere on there.

If xDrive it's the 188, if RWD it's the 215. Should be simple as that, unless it's been changed at some point in the past.
