Electric Fan Code (1A2308)

After recently replacing my thermostat, water pump, "mickey mouse" flange, and expansion tank hose for preventative maintenance (~65k miles) an electric fan fault continues to pop up. It reads "Electric fan, self-diagnosis level 2: Fan error with potential danger for the fan." It only started after I replaced the above items.

I checked fuses and they are fine. Could it be the relay? Or is this code related to the work I did? I do not want to just replace the fan if the issue lies elsewhere. If anyone has any insight please share. Thanks.

Just an update if anyone reading this has any thoughts before I order the new fan. I replaced the relay and attached a video of the fan "running". The fan still is not running full speed. To me it is such an odd coincidence that the fan would immediately cause problems after the above work and never prior to. Again, if anyone has thoughts on some additional things I can check or look into it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey I'm having this exact issue with my 2015 m235i as well right now, and your post seems to be the only one I can find with this same issue. What did you end up doing to get the car up and running again?

The little information I gathered on this issue is that the electric fan in these cars do have sudden failures. So, if its not the relay a fan replacement is needed. But instead of buying the $1000 fan, I decided to just replace the fan motor for $150. I do not believe BMW sells that part individually however. Hope everything works out!

okay, that helps a ton because I'm striking out with the relay, too. Where did you have the fan motor done at? Was it an easy job?

I just did it myself. It's not terribly difficult, there is like one screw and tab holding it in place. Then, you just have to take your time wiggling the fan up and around the upper radiator hose and thermostat. Swapping the motor is easy if you decide to go that route or you could buy the whole assembly too.

awesome thank you. Do you by any chance have a link to where you purchased the parts?

That link is for the full assembly. I purchased the used fan motor on ebay. I think it needs to be the 850w version for all M235i's though so make sure you are purchasing the correct motor if you decide that route.
