After Warranty Coverage

We're all seen those commercials for Car Shield: Ice-T and his buds hawking the product. My research show that Car Shield isn't favored by many indie shops It seems the company will initially refuse to pay for the coverage and has to be "persuaded" to cover the repairs. So, I am asking my fellow members: what is your experience with with after warranty coverage.

My only experience is getting called repeatedly even after I explicitly refused it on my previous car. Big industry and big money for them, thus the aggressive marketing, they are pretty much house in a casino.

This is slightly off-topic, but I seem to recall reading a number of years ago that all of the non-OEM aftermarket warranty companies went out of business during the late-00s financial system meltdown. I'm not sure that's relevant now, or that I'm necessarily remembering it correctly, but that's kept me from considering non-OEM aftermarket warranty companies.

FWIW, Mike Miller, the Tech Talk columnist at BMWCCA's Roundel Magazine, has more than once suggested Zurich when members contact him for a recommendation.

In general, they are a waste of money. You are better off squirling away $50-$100 per month when warranty expires so you have a slush fund for repairs as they come up. This is generally around the 8-10 year mark. If you don't keep it that long, then you have a nice sized down payment.
