Now that we've all seen the new m240i. What's your favorite 2 series up to now? |

wheelbase is a full 2 inches longer. Not sure it will take away the fun.
Tbh I'd be interested in any 6 cylinder 2 series that is manual and. RWD. I drove the M240, M235, M2... all beautiful cars in their on merit. I just hope they keep the non-M cars with RWD and manual option. It's not an option right now, but I keep hoping. |

If you don’t care about the rear seat the new 400Z will be launched August 17. A 400hp version will be available, all new interior and a manual. I won’t buy an automatic M240, so its faster a straight then why are they selling the shit out of the manual M4. Motor Trend and Car and Driver both love the manual M4 and M3, much more fun to drive than the auto and that’s why people still buy them.

I don't hate the new one. Yet, I absolutely do not think it looks as good as the f22 and f23. That being said I do like the upgrades (engine, leds inside/bigger I drive, the more space for wheels, and the sd. That's about it. It kinda looks like a Kia collaboration to me...

I am well into the cycle of my car ownership where I look at new cars that I believe, against all odds, will make me happier than I am now. I configure them, price them out, look on carfax and carvana and Cars 'R Us and again and again I rarely find anything for which I'd trade my F32 M240i xDrive even up, much less pay upwards of 30 to 50 or 70 large to get the thing.
I don't need 500 or 700 HP. I don't need a top end of 175 or 190. I don't even need 2.9 seconds to 60. And I certainly don't need a car the size of the Queen Mary. Perhaps I'm getting old. No, correct that, I am well past "getting old". But so long as I stick to having just one car, I can't find one I think I'd prefer. Very odd. |

You can wrap anything in purple. Even yourself.

In looks
Most of the recent BMW compact coupes have awkward design elements, including the 1M coupe, the F22, and the G42. The only really visually beautiful car to me is the M2CS, the best since the E46, for sure. As someone mentioned in another thread, the G42 launch car relies on the purple paint to do the heavy lifting. In other colors, the G42 doesn't look as good.
I noticed on the German configurator you can get a G42 in Portimao Blue, a color not on the Canadian configurator. I assume the EU cars are still built in Leipzig, which would be my preference. So best-looking, the M2CS in Misano Blue, with gold wheels and carbon ceramic brakes. The drawback, the price gets very close to a 718 Porsche 4.0L. I haven't seen one in person, M2s (or F22s) of any stripe are very rare around me. Best-driving, hard to say, I've only driven the ur-M2 and F22. The M2CS certainly has the accolades, including Evo Car of the Year. Now for daily driver use, I don't know the M2CS would be the best choice, depending on your quality of roads. I'd lean towards an LCI M240i. It's too bad the M2CS didn't get the S58 motor. The G42 was thankfully spared the goblin grill the M3/M4 got. I note that at least on the German configurator, you can get Sensatec in cognac, which would be my choice. I don't remember the replacement leather name for Dakota, it begins with an "L" but I assume it's about the same, pretty heavily processed to the point you might as well have the Sensatec. The G42 seats do look like an improvement over the F22. On the other hand, I prefer the F22 LCI gages. The G42 also has several built-in drivers "aids" I wouldn't want. My deal-breaker issues with the G42, no manual transmission and mandatory X-Drive, plus the U.S. market cars are built in Mexico, not Leipzig. I also don't like the added weight and size. The F22 was too porky to begin with, its replacement doesn't need several hundred extra pounds. That's about a 20% weight gain from a similarly sized E36 M3. |

The Germans seem to have no hang-up about buying U.S-built SUVs from BMW, so it's unlikely that many will be offended by Mexican production. |

The Germans may have realized that the assembly plant geography is irrelevant. The issue is how well the OEM manages the plant and supply base, wherever they may be. Some "distant" plants may be so well-managed as to outperform the home location. Mercedes-Benz's plant in South Africa racked up higher quality audit scores for the C Class than did the plant in Germany. At one time, Honda quality data showed Marysville outperforming cars sourced from Japan. Plants can vary, but it is not the location nor the nationality of the operators that correlate. It's the skill of the management team in running the operation.

I for one, am so glad I sold my M235 for top dollar when I did. I think the new M240 looks awesome, and can't wait to get my hands on one. With the muscular look of it, it makes me wonder what they'll do the M2 in order to further differentiate it?

Because I expected the new M240 to be hideous like so many new BMWs coming out, I was pleasantly surprised by the design.
Hopefully with the future RWD version BMW will reconsider selling a manual non M and maybe (but very unlikely) a convertible with a manual.

Most of my complaints about the F22 230i seem to have been addressed in the G42 230i. More fender room for tires, an optional LSD, sportier seats, and (probably to be confirmed soon) individual paint, while retaining the RWD power train and fun chassis. My biggest gripe - the soulless electric power steering - is something we won't know about until we start to see reviews of production spec cars...but I'm not optimistic based on the G20/22. I haven't read anything about camber adjustability yet. I'll confess to not really caring that there's no manual option. The ZF8 is fun enough with paddles, and it outperforms anything a human could do.
That said, the G42 lost the 2er's most attractive feature - good styling and (relatively, for a modern car) feathery weight. So for now, I think I'm content with my F22. I know it's flaws and I've found aftermarket solutions to "fix" them. And the car is almost paid off now. |

The G42 is far and away the best looking version of the 2 series. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to convince themselves that their dated model is somehow superior when the new one is better in almost every way. The lack of manual might be the only hit against it.

Don't think so!

I did have an E92 with the N54 and it was a great driving car, along with a great looking car. Nothing out of proportion or polarizing images. Too bad BMW couldn't improve on that, or just improve on the G80 in a smaller package. And no one has to have a manual. You can download one at bmwusa.com and save a tree. |

I have a 2016 F23 M235 parked next to a 2006 E46 330ci ZHP in my garage. You are 100% right.
