Apologies if this may have been posted already but Auto Bild had access to the G42 2er and gives viewers some insights.

Note, its in German but you can translate the video to English subtitles.

Will be interesting to see one in person. But looks ok in this video. I wonder how much bigger it is than the F series 2.

3.5 inches longer, according to the BMW CCA announcement I read today. Slightly wider too, but I don't remember by how much.

Overall attractive car. And by modern BMW standards the design is pretty traditional.

I'll never warm up to purple on a BMW. Purple worked once on the E36 that's all. 1/2-series coupes always looked best in blue.

It's 105mm longer and 64mm wider. It's even wider than my 4 series F32, just a little bit shorter. So people looking for a 4 successor, this might be a nicer choice than the actual new 4. Especially since it is a more traditional BMW with the grill, window lines, etc.

The width of this car makes it seem unlikely that the M2 will be wider. Length and wheelbase are slightly longer than an e46 and less than the e92. The driving dynamics should be excellent.

It has to be wide enough to fit G8X suspension. The G87 will be wider.

Interior is a huge upgrade, but im still left disappointed in the lack of ambient lighting and looks cheap having no interior trim pieces on the door panels

It might be bigger externally, but don't be thinking it's bigger inside, because having sat in one, I would suggest if anything it's smaller inside than F87.

How tall did the driver say he was? Looked very very tight back there, I'm hoping he's well over 6ft as in the F22/87 at 5'10 if fit front and back easily.

I'm impressed with the look of this car. After having just participated in the BMW M Track Days at COTA, and getting familiar with the various M vehicles in the BMW lineup, this looks like it has a very similar design on the inside (current BMW design philosophy). I'm sooooo glad that the appearance is relatively traditional, too. I could see this on the short list for a future car.

Great job, BMW. Now, fire the designers of the beaver teeth front ends, and assign them to the LCI project for the 3/4 Series M cars.

He said the car didn't gain much weight. That's not what other threads are saying. I wonder who's right.

I like the design, the interior is nice. I'm not convinced about the taillights yet, but I will wait until I see it in person before I make a final judgement.

I noticed that in the video, the exhaust makes no crackles and pops. If that is to be my last ICE-powered car, I hope they will offer an optional M exhaust with more drama.

Unlike a lot of people here, I think the exterior actually looks good, and I appreciate they resisted the temptation to go bucktooth in the grills.

That said, no DCT is a move in the wrong direction, and, more importantly, the interior materials quality in this generation of all BMWs is tragically poor. Plastic feels cheap. Buttons have little or no travel. Everything feels cheap and flimsy like old Japanese cars in the bad old days.

That, in combination with BMW eliminating European delivery, means my next car is a Porsche. For the wife, probably a Macan to replace her hatchback, and for me eventually maybe a Cayman, but for now I'm still loving my F87.

It's interesting to see that as time passes BMW has been looking for economies in places that increasingly bother me at the same time my income is increasing and I'm willing to go upmarket. I'm sure lots of people are happy to continue to buy BMW for the badge, or will buy BMW for the first time because of the badge and won't notice or care about materials quality. But for me, that stuff matters and I guess it's time to move upmarket—a funny thing to be saying moving away from BMW, but there it is.

If the base Cayman had a six cylinder engine I wouldn't even think twice. The engine and the exhaust note is the only think that will make me want to buy a G87 over it. It may be my last ICE-powered car, it has to have drama.

He's 1,95m or (apparently) almost 6'5.

Love the looks—-don't like the weight gain.
Huge huge improvement in looks over F2X.
This purple is a great color too!

Wish these came in manuals—a big loss.
