PSA. 2015 228i 85k miles. my coolant level sensor leaked and the reservoir needs to be replaced. should have done it when I did the coolant swap/water pump/thermostat job. just a heads up for peeps with higher miles.

Not really relevant, but Doug Demuro on today's video mentioned the same problem on his new Land Rover Defender, coolant reservoir had a small leak.

the ironic thing is that the level sensor had the leak.....so, the thing that's supposed to tell me if there's low level CAUSED the low level

wonder if there's anything I can do with the new one to make the seal better. jb weld, o ring ... something

85,000 miles is a pretty good run.

On a E90 I had the tank split at 125K miles. So at 70K on the M235i I had the tank removed to gain access to Turbo Inlet duct (and WP/Thermo R&R) and realized just how yellow and full of crud the tank was & ordered a new replacement. I want to say $125 from ECS. Plus I was following the "Wrench Lab" Mega-build and he replaced his due to the same issue.

Surprised at how much better the engine bay looks with that new tank and new blue fluid after the WP/Thermo replacement.

Not sure that the tank typically fails at 85K miles but if you plan on keeping the car long term -- all the plastic parts on the turbo side of the car are prone to heat failure and it is a good idea to R&R.

funny tho...mine is opposite turbo!

it was my fault I screwed this one up. YES I saw coolant mineral deposits at the connector and ASSUMED that was the leaker.

in actuality, I had replaced my OFHGs in October-ish and (I guess) forgot to reinstall the hose clamp on the coolant line to the oil cooler.

it made quite the sound when I started the coolant bleed procedure and heard a waterfall in my garage! I'm still probably better off with the new reservoir from the sound of things!
