I experienced some squeaking after washing my car with one of those fancy no-rinse car washes. Apparently some got onto the door seals and left a film, probably some sort of silicone. After reading all the different recommendations here, I opted to just clean all the seals simply with detergent + water. The squeaks went away.

Mine was getting worse as well. I remembered I still had some Gummi Pflege I had used on the weather stripping and seals on my 128i ragtop several year ago. I applied it several hours ago on the rubber seal above the drivers window (keeping the window down while the Gummi Pfledge dried) - and when we took the M235i out for lunch a while ago - not a peep.
Don't know how long it will last 'til I start hearing anything (if ever), but if I do, I'll just re-apply another coating of Gummi Pfledge.
So my thinking that the noise is created by the top of the window rubbing against the weather stripping is probably correct and the Gummi Pfledge dries to a very smooth slippery but dry finish which prevents or reduces glass on rubber creaking noises.
So I'm optimistic that this will be the long term solution.

You can get Gummi Pfledge on Amazon.ca (for Canucks) or Amazon.com (for Yanks)..
Bimmerfile - Did the noise come back yet or is your first coat of Gummy Pfledge still holding up? I started getting the same type of noise and will be purchasing Gummy Pfledge, thanks to you post!

Not a peep, squeak or creak since I applied a coat of Gummy Pfledge to the rubber window seal 4 weeks ago - so I'm super happy.
I don't know how long this application will last before I have to apply another coat of GP, but even if I have to do it every couple of months, I'll be happy.
I think I could have done an even better job as I applied the Gummy Pfledge on the rubber seal without first cleaning the rubber seal.
Next time I start to hear anything, I'll probably first wash the rubber seal gently with warm water and a microfiber cloth, let it dry and then apply a coat of Gummy Pfledge.
BTW, When you apply the Gummy Pfledge, roll your windows down first and keep them down until the Gummy Pfledge dries on the rubber seal.

But it definitely does the job.

Happy New Year...

Thanks and Happy New Year to you as well!

How long did you have to wait for Gummy Pfledge to dry? Just ordered on amazon and waiting for it to get here so I can get rid of those squeaking noises!

Good question. It says that you have to let it dry or it will leave a sticky line inside the top of your window if it comes in contact with wet Gummy Pfledge and make the application less effective.
Since we have an underground garage, I applied GP to the weather stripping and left the car with the windows down until I had to use it again a few hours later. But, I'm sure it was dry long before then.
It may only take 5 - 10 minutes to dry, but I don't know that for sure.
Drying time may also depend on heat & humidity.
If I were you, I'd let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes and then touch a spot on the applied area to see if it's dry..

I'm glad this thread exist..I noticed a thin line of lubricant on the top of my windows a few weeks after I bought the car. I cleaned it off thinking it shouldn't be there and non stop squeaking started...

I ordered Gummi Pfledge today and I sure hope it works.

I've owned a 2008 Z4 soft top and for the last 6 months a 2015 2 convertible. Both cars had no problems with rubbers. I never clean them with any type of straight cleaner just leave them well alone. I use a combined wash/wax cleaner on my cars. I don't use BMW's wash as it's just a cleaner and my hands are very dry after using BMW's cleaner so what it does to rubbers who knows.

I had a 2003 Z4 soft-top for 5+ years, a 128i soft-top for 6+ years, a 228i soft-top for 9 months and never any noise issues with the rubber weatherstripping. Never had to touch or clean or do anything to the weather stripping.
With my 2016 M235xi soft-top, within 2 weeks of delivery, I did have squeaking and creaking coming from where the upper part of the window presses against the weather stripping.
An application of Gummy Pfledge solved the issue.

So, yah, chances are that if you have a bimmer soft-top you'll have no issues, but this thread is about what to do if your soft-top does develop the noise issue.
So you may want to bookmark it for future reference.

Gummy Pflege didn't work so well for me. Might have applied too much as it didn't dry even after 2 hours or so. Wiped it down and reapplied (just a bit this time without squeezing the bottle). Will let it sit overnight and hopefully works.

Yah, too much of a good thing isn't always a good thing.

Being an ex E46 owner I had this issue too, back then I used silicone lubricant on the roof seal above the doors this also cured it and lasted quite a long time between applications.

Besides the useful information: well done, and maybe a Back from the Dead record.

A member smarter than me will know for sure.
