Clueless can be ok
So I'm in my first BMW (2017 230 RWD 6 speed) and really like it. But like some I am mystified by the model designations. (yes there is a key in the club magazine) Doesn't matter, I like my car and don't expect to make any changes.
Reminds me of a comment by my sister a few years ago; " here in Alaska we don't like GM cars, we prefer Pontiacs" |

BMW confused itself, as yours is a 220, mine is a 230; and, after all these years, Clueless is still on my top ten movies list.

I'm not sure anyone at BMW knows either... I was thinking the other day, "I wonder if anyone remembers what the "i" is for? Seems a bit of an anachronism on a modern automobile...

If clueless is the topic, reminds me of my favorite focus group participant. The moderator was going around the table asking at the start what each person drove. (Quotes are my best memory). "Saturn", she said. "What model?", he asked. "Blue". "Does it have 2 or 4 doors?". "I don't know. I never looked." We walked out to the parking lot with her after the group out of pure curiosity. She had a blue four door and admitted she didn't think about that because she's never opened one of them. She was single. Clueless winner?

Yes, she did!
This happened much earlier in my career and helped broaden my insight as to who is really out there in the general automotive population/marketplace.

What I know is in 2015 there was a 220 (4 cyl) and 235 (6 cyl). For the model update in 16/17, they kept the 220 for Europe (low powered 4 cyl) and NA got the 230 (4 cyl) and 240 (6 cyl). The main difference is the move from the N series engine to the B series engine. I agree with all, these model updates are confusing. Even Dick Tracy couldn't figure it out with his decoder ring, much less me looking back over the past 2 decades. |
