The beat goes on. I'd probably consider this car in RWD form if I didn't already have my F22. --------------------------------------- These cars are already, or are very close to becoming, legitimate GT cars. I think the reason this may not necessarily be clear is that today's GT cars have significantly more power, weight, and, arguably, complexity, along with a higher price tag, of course. I'm ignoring sumptuousness of the interior leather and all that sort of thing in making this judgement and am thinking only of functionality.

Bulk-wise, it's basically a previous generation 3 Series or a pre-pre-generation 5 Series. This car is as big as a 5 Series was when I got my first BMW (in the avatar) a 320i Touring, back in the early 90's.
G42 Coupé - L:4.54m / W:1.84m / 1765 Kgs F23 M240i Convertible - L:4.43m / W: 1.77m / 1710 Kgs E30 320i Touring - L:4.33m / W: 1.65m / 1270 Kgs Basically, the new car is a 2 Series sports coupé that weighs 495 kgs (1091 lbs) more, and is 11cm (4.3") longer than my 1990s 3 Series Touring. It's also 55kgs (121 lbs) heavier and 7cm (2.8") longer than the current M240i convertible. Remember how many critics said how the extra weight of the M235i/M240i convertible compromised the handling? Are we meant to forget all that now? Basically, the new model is an M440i Coupé to match the current M440i Convertible, at least as far as dimensions and weight go. And that's why there's no new model M235i Convertible, because it's already there. The misnomer is in designating the new Coupé as a 2 Series. It's not, it's a 4 (if you use the Series number to designate category not shape, as was the case historically). It's effectively the EoL of the F22/F23 Series: if you really want a physically smaller performance car you look at the F40 or a Mini or perhaps a Z4 if you can live with 2 seats.

Lots of complaints about when the current M340 came out as well.Too heavy yadda yadda. Turns out that it is a very good performer as is the M3/4 . I am sure this will perform well too. Handling should be good due to same albeit shortened 3 series underpinnings. My previous car was a M235, it was a nice car. This should be better. Final judgment when I see some driving reviews

There is no doubt it will handle well but it is not anymore the small BMW we were expecting. As for Achilles, he has not done a review and he doesn't know what about he is talking.
The best review I saw until now is from a German site I catched on UTube that I forgot the name.

The fact is, it has a great shape and coulda been beautiful. But BMW chose to tack on some polarizing features. Give it the bumper of the Z8, tailights similar to the Z8, or even the 8 series, and this is a beautiful car. But, unfortunately it's not. As I stated in another thread. I may get one, but I'll have to put a sign in the rear window that says, "I know it's ugly, but it drives great" so I don't have to explain to everyone why I bought such an ugly car. Or maybe I can just get it wrapped in cammo. |

Seem to recall lots of the same criticism about the M3/4?

Alternatives? I wouldn't consider any of them. But it's proof not only BMW screws things up. A Mustang hatchback! Ironically though, if the 240 just had the lower front intakes and headlights of that emustang it would be great. At least from the front. |

Rather sad to see the car grow in size but overall I like what I see. Appears to be an upgrade in options and interior to my 2017 M240i. I like the rear fender flairs. Something I wish I could have gotten on my 2017 (for a more M2 look).
If I wasn't looking at getting an EV to replace my BMW, I'd be happy to trade for the new 2022. |

Show me another 2-door coupe that can actually seat 4 average sized adults (sorry Ford/Toyota), get to 60 in the low 4 second range and does more than go fast in a straight line (sorry Dodge) and doesn't look like a cheap car that was mod'ed by a boy racer (sorry Honda) for less than $50k.
Bueller? Bueller? So in that bunch, all that's left is a used M2, but I'd be scared about what kind of abuse a 3 year old M2 coming off a lease might have taken.

They could eliminate an entire series, put the pig butt from the 2 with the pig face of the 4 and you’d have a real show stopper as well as a showroom stopper.
