Glad to hear BMW is finally making it full screen.
Those of you with full screen carplay, how does the reverse camera look like?
Is it also full screen?

Interesting to hear!

European Auto Source updated my iDrive late April 2021 and it did not automatically enable full-screen CarPlay.

However, this update made it possible to enable the feature via bimmercode. Prior to the update, the bimmercode setting did not enable full screen CarPlay when selected.
Can you share a pic of music playing? I'm wondering if the orientation of various elements is better laid out on the "official" full screen. The "hacked" version seems to push controls weirdly low. It's probably just the default for our resolution, but I was curious.

Edit: You can hopefully see in my attachments where the controls are now and where I think they should be aesthetically.
Here's how mine looks. It appears to be more spread out while yours looks condensed toward the bottom.
Definitely looks better on stock.

Fascinating.

I would've thought the layout of the elements would be set from the iPhone (and not the iStep version.) I think both of your versions are "hacked" (ie enabled via coding/toggling config.) From my understanding, the ability to toggle on full screen CarPlay requires a minimum of a July 2020 iStep version. BrettKA may be running the March 2021 build, while amutti is on Nov 2020.

I believe the layouts are modified a bit by data passed to it by the head unit. For example, part of the hack is editing an ini file and putting in the resolution of the screen (in our case wider). I believe there may be some other configurations that could be modified as well.

Interesting. Now I'm really curious what version BrettKa and KevinMc are running. I was able to find some iStep/iLevel documentation, but it never seems to have a change log attached to it.

21-03 is the first that got it from factory (in case of NBTEVO)

So if we have a 2021 and can convince the dealer to do the istep upgrade we should have stock full screen? Any other changes? I like the layout better. Less smushed. Is split screen now toggle-able?

It still needs to be coded.
Splitscreen is not toggle-able.

I assume it's just the BimmerCode togglable option with the newer istep? Do you know if the CarPlay ini is any different? To account for the better layout? I'd be willing to try the ini from the newer istep.

So those aren't the iStep versions. There's two ways I know how to pull them:

1. If you have Bimmercode, it will display the iStep version in the vehicle settings. I just recently discovered this lol.
2. Exporting the driver profile to USB drive. There's a file on it that will have your iStep version on it. This is how I did it on my car and my wife's X2.

Thanks!

Weirdly, iOS 14.6 caused my full-screen CarPlay to become compressed like some other users were reporting.

iOS updates seem to consistently break and fix something in CarPlay. It's pretty irritating.

Top is before 14.6, bottom is after 14.6.

And I checked my iStep through BC yesterday - my M2C did not come full screen apple carplay (although I swear it did and once I selected split screen I can't get full screen back even even unchecking split….)

If I have 21.03 I'm keen to understand how to use BC to code it full screen… I tried yesterday using Display Resolution and Variance in Expert Mode but it didn't change it.

If you have 21-03 you just go to expert mode and change the CARPLAY_FULLSCREEN to aktiv.
