Wheel Spacers

I know its been discussed before but I'd like to gauge opinion on wheels spacers.

From previous reading it seems 12mm front and 15mm rear seems to be fairly well received.

For whatever reason that doesn't seem to be a combo that is readily available here in the UK.
12/20 however is.

What's the thoughts on 20mm on the rear. For a start does that actually fit? I'm running stock 18's and tyres. Am I prone for it rubbing or will it look just plain stupid?

Also how about 15/20?

Interesting. Can someone actually post a photo running on 20mm spacers? If possible

ML Performance are selling 12 and 15mm H&R spacers.
Haven't heard anyone run 20mm in the rear.

I guess you could always double up and have 24mm spacers.

I run 13mm spacers on the rear with stock wheels and tires in the winter. fills out the wheel well pretty nicely. I'm thinking you could do 15mm but 20mm might be pushing it.

Hi iv-128i,

I am interested in spacers for the look but am concerned about handling.

Do you experienced changes in handling after mounting spacers ?

Any poke in the rear with 15 mm ?

Looking at that I'm thinking 15mm is the limit.

Finally fitted the spacers.
Went 12 front and 15 rear.

If anybody's interested 20 wouldn't be an option.

15 is the max.

Did you do extended lug bolts or did you install studs? Thanks! Any photos?

I'll take some pics soon.
I fitted longer bolts that came as part of a kit.
Got to take them all off again as when I went to fit them I couldn't find my copper grease.
I used some motorbike chain wax as a temp measure. About an hour later I found the copper grease!

I'm assuming you only put the anti seize on the hub centre boss?

As you may already know (so I will be preaching to the choir if that is the case), the bolt threads need to be clean and dry to be torqued to the correct value, lubrication or anti seize will cause them to be over torqued by a variable amount due to the different properties of various lubricants, but it could be anywhere from 30 to 60% with oil typically at the low end of over torquing, grease in the middle and graphite at the high end.

Here's 12mm up front with Apex 90mm stud kit. I fitted 15mm up front too and rubbed slightly on full compression (Dinan springs). With light/moderate camber I don't think it would be much of an issue, but I'm also running the upper limit (225/45) tire on a 7" wheel. I agree with others 15mm rear is the max/best choice.

The bolts went in clean yes. Good info reference over torquing though.
When I remove them I'll check to make sure there is no seepage onto the bolts. If so I'll clean them.

Out of interest what's the recommended torque?

140Nm

An interesting article on wheel failures from a forensic accident investigator, indicating that over torquing is the main cause of wheel loss from a vehicle, and of that set lubrication or use of anti seize on the studs or bolts is a leading cause of over torquing: http://www.crashforensics.com/wheelandhubfailures.cfm
