newtis is now subscription based
You read that right! www.newtis.info is now www.newtis.com and it costs money. A single day's use will cost you $30. An entire year's use will cost you $2500.

This is newtis.info's current page: newTIS.info Site Closed This site is closed per demands of BMW AG. BMW recommends the official and up-to-date BMW TIS which can be accessed at www.bmwtis.com*. * However, we believe that BMW violates the right to repair by effectively locking out individual consumers from basic repair information through unreasonably high access fees. Aholes. Trying to force people to go to the dealers for maintenance that most of us could otherwise perform at home. This is just corporate greed.
So long to a GREAT site. Thank you for all the information you've provided to me over the past few years. I've learned a lot!

I am saddened that newtis.info is gone. It was a great resource.
However, I was always a bit surprised that BMW corporate allowed it to exist as long as it did. It was an obvious blatant copy of the BMW internal TIS information. And the fact that newtis.info was showing ads meant it was done for profit. That is blatant copyright violation. I hate the copyright exploitation of media companies, but making a profit distributing someone else's content is not theft. (Making your own copies of media, well, I think that is less clear.) As for Right to Repair, well, I'm not really seeing it. BMW will sell parts to anyone. There are tons of resources available to service these cars, like code readers, from third parties. (And some of those are copying internal ISTA tool menu information verbatim.) Yes, the price of access to the official TIS info seems a bit high. $10/day would be more reasonable. But the access is available. It would be less annoying if there was actually a Bentley manual or other deep technical resource available for our cars. I just hope this isn't a sign of BMW cracking down on all other slightly shady resources we make use of, like extensive copying of and discussion of ISTA tools, and other coding/troubleshooting tools. Key difference I see is that the majority of that is not done for profit. It's enthusiasts sharing and working to further the enjoyment of BMW's. I've also been curious about realoem.com. That is not an official BMW site either. Since it is just parts lists though, I would think it less likely they would shut that down. That would be a major loss. |

Very sorry to see this go as well.
It helped me out with my 2009 MINI R55 when the Bentley manual was lacking details, and with our 2020 M240i (although that will be under factory warranty then BMW dealer purchased extended warranty for about 6 more years). It would be nice if Bentley put out an F22/F23 manual out soon, but I doubt they ever will. I got a couple eBay DVD and download F22/F23 service manuals, but they either didn’t work or were outdated and incomplete compared to their descriptions. |

As a general rule, knowledge should be free to access to anyone, as long as they are using it for themselves. It is utter bullshit that they locked down a third party website for providing information that they could have hosted themselves anyway.
Profiting off of intentionally hiding information is greedy. |

We need national Right to Repair
legislation that has more teeth and broader scope than the one Massachusetts passed in 2013 and amended in 2014. |
