Yellow Check Engine Light - On

Greetings fellow 2 Addicts,

The yellow check engine light came on yesterday.
It’s not flashing, it remains lit.

I Googled this issue and tightened my gas cap with negative results.
Light is still on.

Car is a “19 240i x-drive with <9000 miles.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Frustrating on a new car...

Trying to prevent a trip to dealer if feasible...

TYIA/Cheers,

B

Why avoid the dealer? They will not only be able to tell you what it is, they will then fix it under warranty. You could go to Pep Boys and let them shove their code reader in to try to tell you what code it is throwing, but it still ends up with either going to the dealer to fix whatever it says is wrong, or having to gut it out that the counter clerk was right when he told you 'it says there isn't any active code right now so I just reset it'.

Could be a component failure but more likely it could be as simple as too many misfires due to a problem with the fuel grade or quality, if that is the case the code should reset a while after the fuel issue is resolved and the light will go out.

Really the codes have to be read to know what is the root cause of the problem.

I used to get that yellow code all the time with my E46, but I have never seen it once in over five years of owning the 235. Nor do we get it with our 2016 X3, which leads me to believe that they have finally figured out how to keep the gas cap screwed on right.
Get thee to the dealer! With 9K miles on the car, why take a chance? Yes, it may be a pain, especially if the dealer is not nearby, but mine, at least, has excellent coffee.

Yes, a dealer trip is definitely in order. Any one of a a number of things could be causing the problem. Could be a sensor which would require replacement. Only way to know for sure is for the service department to run the code. Easy and no-cost fix.
