why 245 instead of 255 on rear?

So my old e92 with staggered wheels/tires came with 225/40-18s on the front and 255/35-18 on the rear. These tires are the same circumference. Why does the 2 series come with 245/35s on the rear instead?

The rear wheels on the 2-series with staggered wheels are only 8” wide, the maximum tyre width certified by the tyre manufacturers for a 35 profile in that width is 245mm. BMW would need to use an 8.5 to 10.0” wide wheel to fit a 255/35-18 tyre correctly.

Wow...7.5 and 8s on this car and 8 and 8.5 on the e92...I had forgotten that.
