Headlight Water Damage from Service Center
I brought my car in for its first service an oil change and neglected to tell them to not wash it. Not sure if this was good or bad because after driving for an hour I noticed my left headlight had water inside. I only hand wash my car myself meticulously. Never used a power washer.
I inspected the headlight and it seems pushed in a little and when pushed it gives slightly. The other headlight is very firm. I contacted service and they said bring it in. Holiday week is a little hectic here. Any thoughts on what went on. I can think of 2 things It was always like that and I never noticed-the car wash or power washer did it. (a good thing) The light was knocked out of place by accident during the service |

A weather seal somewhere must've gotten wedged out if they use a pressure washer, but I thought all the dealerships used automatic car washes. Either that or maybe you have a crack in your housing? I always leave a note on my dashboard saying "NO WASH" in big red letters.

Yeah, I never have my car going through a auto wash. My wheels could potentially get scratched/scraped and those brushes can't be good for the paint.

We almost always use automatic car washes for all our cars. AFAIK, no one in their right mind ever uses a power washer on cars.
There should be no reason to baby a fairly new modern car, especially when it comes to washing. THIS SORT OF THING SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. The dealer know it and I am sure that they will make good. |

So my headlight was hit at some point. I brought it back to the service center and they showed me the internal housing which was cracked and can't be fixed under warranty.
I guess the automatic car wash sprayed water in the housing somehow. Or They damaged the headlight and are trying to cover it up. I guess I'm out of luck. If I take it to the next level, there will be reports of the damaged headlight and I might have to pay for a new replacement upon the lease return. |

At least they let me hang out with them inside the garage. I felt like a kid being in Santa's Workshop. |

No Price. Did not want anything reported.
They actually advised me to just dry it out and silicone the the seams. BMW never looks under the hood unless external damage or a report has been made during a lease return Last edited by Climate Changer; 12-19-2018 at 09:32 AM.. Reason: additional info |

I've stopped using cleaning or car washing services at once I've bought my own pressure washer. All problems are solved in this situation. No need to spend more money and no need to worry about so called "expert washers" who can damage your car.

2 bucket hand wash, or let it stay dirty (really a '3-bucket' since wheels get their own). If you just have to do s/t fast, use a foam cannon. |

There is no problem using a pressure washer, provided you have the correct nozzle on there that spreads out the spray enough, and as long as you aren't inches away from the car. I find that using mine makes it so much easier to rinse and get the initial bugs and dirt off before attempting to hand wash and spread all that junk around. You can even add detergent to most of the pressure washers now, solely for the use on cars.

I wash my 230i with a pressure washer at least 3 times a week and have never had this issue. I knew from first glance that it was a problem with the lighting housing. I would be curious about which idiot caused the damage to my light...
